Rugby club celebrates support

Gamalakhe Black Bulls stated that the boys demonstrated tremendous determination and skill, thereby securing a spot in the bowl final.

The Gamalakhe Black Bulls Rugby Club has expressed gratitude to Dr Sayed Muhammed Altaaf Kader for sponsoring their participation in the King’s Rugby Sevens tournament at Kingsway High School last week.

According to the Black Bulls’ management, Dr Kader’s belief in the young athletes means the world to the club.

“We are incredibly thankful for your help. We also want to express our appreciation to the board of the Southern KZN Rugby Union and its treasurer, Mariaan Semmens, for her continuous support throughout the year, from club level to our juniors. Your encouragement and commitment to our development make a huge difference,” said the club.

In a statement, the club explained that the Gamalakhe Schools’ Sport Foundation recently faced a challenging path.

“This time around, we found ourselves in a tough group—the so-called ‘group of death’. Our first match was a walkover against St. Charles, who unfortunately failed to arrive. However, things intensified further in our next two matches. We faced Ferrum, a formidable opponent who ultimately went on to win the tournament. Following that, we played against Kuswag and, despite our best efforts, we finished third in our group.”

The club added that after competing against other third-place teams, they advanced to the semi-finals, where they met the host school, Kingsway.

Gamalakhe Black Bulls stated that the boys demonstrated tremendous determination and skill, thereby securing a spot in the bowl final.

“In the final match, we went head-to-head with Northwood College, a tough tier-one school. While we fought hard, the game didn’t go our way, and we ultimately lost. It wasn’t the tournament we had hoped for, but the boys are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to compete at such a high level. Together, we are shaping the future of rugby in our community. Thank you for being part of this journey,” said the club.
