New uniforms for learners

The donations aimed to address challenges faced by learners from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Forty learners from Tholisu Secondary in Umzinto were beneficiaries of full school uniforms after the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature chairperson of committees, Dr Ntuthuko Mahlaba and Umdoni Municipality mayor, Mbali Cele-Luthuli, visited the school last week.

Also, 300 female learners received sanitary supplies.

Mahlaba said the donations aimed to address challenges faced by learners from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Cele-Luthuli said the donations vindicated Umdoni Municipality’s service delivery theme: ‘Working together to build better communities’.

She said the donations were possible in partnership with the KZN Legislature and a banking institution.

“We must ensure that every learner wears their school uniform with pride and dignity, regardless of their background. Our learners come from diverse backgrounds, and it is our responsibility to support them. I am grateful to Dr Mahlaba and the bank for partnering with us to make today a reality,” she said.

The mayor added, “To our young women, I want to say: though challenges may exist now, completing your education will empower you to transform your future and your financial situation.”

Meanwhile, Mahlaba reminded the learners of the importance of respect.

“Respect for both yourself and others. Use this as a guiding principle for success in life as you are the leaders of tomorrow.”
