ANC members ponder on a way forward

The former minister, Bheki Cele, emphasized the need to accelerate the delivery of services.

To prepare for December’s crucial national general council, the ANC hosted one of its regional general councils at the Port Shepstone Civic Centre last Sunday.

ANC National Executive Committee (NEC) member Bheki Cele and ANC KZN provincial task team (PTT) convenor Jeff Radebe led the discussions.

At the gathering, Cele unpacked the ANC’s fifth National General Council Base Document titled, ‘ANC renewal to advance the Freedom Charter forward to a national democratic society based on social justice, shared prosperity and human solidarity’.

Cele explained that the meetings were designed to unpack the progress made in the ANC’s renewal strategy while outlining the plans for the upcoming regional and provincial conferences.

In his address, the former minister emphasised the need to accelerate the delivery of services.

“I want to commend the work being done here in the Tolomane Mnyayiza Region. We can see the progress on the ground, particularly in water and roads. The construction work under way is a clear sign that we are moving forward, but we must fast-track our efforts to ensure every citizen feels the impact of a caring government,” said Cele.

The council was strictly for the leadership of ANC branches, the leagues and alliance partners who participated in the discussions.

The ANC Tolomane Mnyayiza regional coordinator, Nkazimulo Mavundla, said that the new regional task team was already on the ground working.

He said they have a clear programme of action after having done a thorough synopsis of the challenges and opportunities in the region.

“This programme of action is not ours alone. Its success relies on all of us. Every branch and every member of the ANC, its leagues and alliance partners have a critical role in ensuring organisational renewal and deepening the work of the ANC to transform the lives of people in the Tolomane Mnyayiza Region,” he said.

Meanwhile, ANC PTT member Jeff Radebe said the regional general councils took place across several provinces, including KwaZulu-Natal, where the party suffered losses in the 2024 general elections.
