Deputy chief whip post for South Coast’s Busie Machi
Machi said she is honoured to have been trusted with such duties for the party and the nation.
South Coast born IFP stalwart, Busaphi Busie Machi’s political career is blossoming. Machi, who served as an Ugu exco councillor, was deployed to the National Assembly last year.
Last Tuesday, she was appointed as deputy chief whip of the IFP, deputising for Nhlahla Hadebe. Machi fills the vacancy left by Khethamabala Sithole, who died recently.
Machi said she is honoured to have been trusted with such duties for the party and the nation.
“I appreciate the IFP’s trust in me. I promise I will not let down the people of the South Coast and South Africa,” she added.
She was sworn in as an Member of Parliament in July this year, after she had led IFP Caucus in the Ugu District Municipality. Prior to that she had served in several positions, including being an oversight chairperson councillor at the then Hibiscus Coast Municipality, deputy chairperson of the IFP Ray Nkonyeni Constituency, deputy provincial secretary of the IFP, among others.
In a statement released by IFP, it said: “Machi currently serves on the Multi-Party Women’s Caucus Steering Committee as well as the Portfolio Committees on Home Affairs, Correctional Services, and Social Development. Her proven record of dedicated service positions her well to assume this important leadership role within the caucus.”
The party said Machi’s new role requires her to support the chief whip of the National Assembly in ensuring the effective coordination of the IFP’s parliamentary work, maintaining discipline within the caucus, and advancing the party’s legislative and oversight priorities.
“Her appointment also reaffirms the IFP’s continued commitment to promoting principled leadership, accountability, inclusion and service excellence in the execution of its parliamentary mandate,” the statement concluded.
