Chidzungu sparkles at Sapphire Coast Marathon
There were a number of personal highlights for the Striders.
Peter Brino Chidzungu of South Coast Striders continued his dominance at the Sapphire Coast Marathon in Amanzimtoti, clinching first place for the third straight year.
He clocked an impressive 2:28:03 for the 42.2km race, leading a strong Striders contingent on the infamously challenging course.
The route, boasting a significant 561m elevation gain, lived up to its reputation as one of KZN’s toughest.
Runners faced strategic uphill and downhill battles, including a relentless 100m climb between 12km and 14km plus a brutal 80m monster hill between 34km and 35km.
As an athletic club that recently hosted its own event, South Coast Striders understands the dedication required and extends sincere thanks to the Amanzimtoti club for a superb race.
Congratulations to all participants, especially those who achieved personal bests (PB) and novice finishes.
Special mention goes to Marc Masson, who made an inspiring return to the distance after a 10-year hiatus, demonstrating true Striders resilience.
