ANC summit strategises to put the people first

ANC Tolomane Mnyayiza regional convenor Dixie Nciki appealed to municipal deployees and councillors to do their jobs properly.

The ANC held a local government summit at Uvongo Town Hall on Sunday, to strategise to expedite service delivery to the community.

The meeting was attended by ANC branch, regional and provincial leaders who heard municipal reports on service delivery achievements and challenges. Delegates discussed relevant interventions together and charted a way forward to improve delivery of access roads and water.

ANC Tolomane Mnyayiza regional convenor Dixie Nciki urged all ANC councillors and municipal deployees to put people first and deliver services to all communities. The summit was held under the theme ‘Putting people first through service delivery and accountability’.

Nciki said they gathered not only as public servants, but as agents of hope for people of the South Coast who need service delivery.

“Politically, let’s go back to our voting stations in our wards and interact with our people. Let’s be close to the people in our wards and solve their challenges of service delivery. We want to regain the community’s confidence and trust going into local government elections next year. We need to put people first and deliver services to them. We will adopt a zero-tolerance approach against our municipal deployees who do not serve our people. Our people need water, roads and jobs.”

She appealed to municipal deployees and councillors to do their jobs properly. “People love the ANC, it’s their hope for service delivery. Let’s work well and do our jobs accordingly and improve as we want to win all our municipalities next year.”

ANC KZN second deputy convenor Siboniso Duma said the ANC government needs to change the way, it has been doing things and provide municipalities with enough budgets to deliver services to the communities. “Councillors are often blamed for lack of service delivery. What can they do with 10% municipal budgets, we are setting them up for failure with that budget.”

Duma called on ANC members to be united and not to contest each other at branch conferences to the point where they destroy their branches which are the foundation of the party.

“Councillors need to profile their wards and point out what they delivered to the people and know the previous status of the ward. You need to know challenges and possible solutions in the ward and close the ranks,” said Duma.
