It was a night to remember for staff of Gamalakhe Community Health Centre (GCHC) as they exchanged their uniforms for a night of glitz and glam at a gala dinner and awards at Oceanic Restaurant in Port Shepstone last Friday.
The event celebrated individuals and facilities that performed well on health indicators. GCHC spokesperson Lifa Hadebe, said: “The night began with a soft cascade of crystal chandeliers casting a warm glow next to the sea.

During the welcoming of guests, facility CEO Dr Frank Shongwe, reminded the guests about advocating for a system where the patient is at the centre of service delivery, fostering empathy and respect among staff.”
The evening’s highlight was an address by guest speaker, Raj Govender, who reminded attendees about improving patient care in their facilities and the wellbeing of clients.

Nine clinics operate under GCHC – Bhomela, Shelly Beach, Margate, Gcilima, Port Edward, Ntabeni, Ludimala, Breamer and Mvutshini.
The health workers were awarded in ethics and professionalism.
Port Edward Clinic won Best Facility in Implementing Health Indicators. They were handed a trophy and certificate for their excellence.
