Magical ‘Lights in the Forest’ returns to Umtentweni
This year’s event runs from Friday, December 19 to Friday, December 26, with gates opening at 18:30 each evening.
A beloved festive tradition is set to brighten Umtentweni once again this Christmas, as the community-built ‘Lights in the Forest’ experience returns for eight enchanting nights this December.
Hosted by Living Word Hibiscus Church, the illuminated walk-through installation has become a highlight of the holiday season on the South Coast – drawing families, holidaymakers and friends into a glowing world created entirely by local hands.
This year’s event runs from Friday, December 19 to Friday, December 26, with gates opening at 18:30 each evening. Entry is R20 per person.

Pastor Wilko Kunz said the forest had grown into a celebration of unity and creativity.
“For eight nights the pathway will sparkle with handcrafted light displays, each designed by local families and businesses,” he explained. “It’s a joyful tradition, filled with music, laughter and moments visitors carry with them long after Christmas.”
Guests are encouraged to bring blankets, camp chairs and loved ones to enjoy the atmosphere. Food and refreshments will be on sale, including popcorn, pancakes, boerewors rolls, coffee and cold drinks.
“Everyone is welcome,” added Wilko. “Walk the trail, experience the wonder, and be part of the light we share together.”
