Walk in Gcilima raises awareness on gender-based violence
The aim was to educate community members to speak out against abuse in all forms.
Gcilima Clinic staff recently organised a walk against gender-based violence (GBV) in the community.
Participants walked from Thokothe Sports Field to Gcilima Community Hall, which featured stakeholders like the Department of Health, Department of Social Development, Saps, Ray Nkonyeni traffic police, Ugu District Community Policing Forum and community leaders including local councillors from Ray Nkonyeni Municipality.

Ugu District Community Policing Forum Secretary Sphesihle Nkomo said the event was a resounding success. “It raised awareness about the ongoing challenges of GBV within our communities. The victims of such violence are encouraged to report these crimes to law enforcement authorities.”
Gcilima Clinic’s Acting Operations Manager Jabu Cele said the walk served to mobilise society and stakeholders to act collectively against GBV and promote safety for all people of Gcilima.

“Through this initiative we aim to educate community members to speak out against abuse in all its forms. We call on all people to act collectively to prevent incidents of GBV in our communities.” said Cele.
