Ugu runner-up at provincial games

Athletics did fairly well and collected 4 gold medals, 6 silver and 6 bronze.

Team Ugu earned the runner-up prize at the SALGA KZN Games in Pietermaritzburg recently.

It’s a massive improvement from last year’s games, where it placed 10th out of 11 districts.

Representing the district with excellence, the combined strength of athletes of Umdoni, Umzumbe, Ray Nkonyeni and Umuziwabantu local municipalities demonstrated remarkable talent, determination and unity throughout the tournament.

Results: men’s football – bronze, women’s volleyball – bronze, khokho – bronze, athletics – bronze, tech games – silver, karate full contact – silver, ngqathu – silver, swimming – silver, dance – 4th, rugby – 6th, chess – 5th, netball – 9th and men’s volleyball – 5th.

The team also walked away with second place for the Best Organised Team.

It is must be noted that the swimming team added the biggest boost, with 26 gold medals, 32 silver medals and 15 bronze medals.

Athletics did fairly well and collected 4 gold medals, 6 silver and 6 bronze.

Speaking on this achievement, the mayor of Ugu District Municipality, Clr Sikhumbuzo Mqadi, expressed great pride in the team.

“This is a moment of pride for the people of Ugu. Our athletes have shown dedication, discipline and heart, proving that excellence lives in our communities. Finishing second overall is not just a medal, it is a statement of capability and potential. We congratulate every player, coach and official who worked tirelessly to make this a reality,” he said.
