Umuziwabantu Local Municipality mayor, Lindelani Sboniso Zungu, welcomed visitors at a roadblock on the N2 in Harding last Wednesday.
He led the programme, which was coordinated by the municipality and South Coast Tourism and Investment Enterprise (SCTIE).

Other stakeholders who joined in were the Road Traffic Inspectorate, Saps, Emergency Medical Rescue Services, the municipality’s Law Enforcement Unit and Fire and Disaster Management Services.
This initiative proved to be successful as they met and greeted motorists, shared some jokes with them and wished them a wonderful stay on the South Coast, where some will be spending their holidays.

Unfortunately, some were found to be on the wrong side of the law, and were punished accordingly.
According to the municipality: “A number of motorists were issued fines for various offences including roadworthiness failures, driving without valid documentation, and other infringements.”
Zungu said: “We urge all holidaymakers to support local establishments and enjoy their stay responsibly.”

He added the municipality is committed to taking road safety and law enforcement seriously. “This festive season, we will intensify operations to ensure maximum law enforcement visibility across our town. Our message is clear: arrive alive, do not drink and drive, and ensure that your vehicle is roadworthy,” said Zungu.
Dr Vusumuzi Sibiya, SCTIE CEO, commended the partnership, highlighting its importance in boosting tourism and promoting a safe, welcoming environment for all visitors.
He said: “This initiative reflects our commitment to ensuring that every traveller feels valued and informed when arriving in the KZN South Coast region. Harding has a variety of local products that contribute to our broader tourism economy. We appreciate the leadership of the municipality and the dedication of all partners involved.”
