Cultural festival kicks off in Mtwalume this weekend
Among the artists performing are Mthobisi Mthalane, Sbonelo Mlita, Themba Ncama, Zeph Nzama, Faith Disane, Khulekani Shongwe and Kwenza Nzama.
Ikhwezi Le-Afrika, Ntelezi Msani Heritage Foundation and Ntelezi Msani Heritage Centre jointly launched a multi-disciplinary cultural festival, Kurudi Africa Cultural Experience 2025 at Oceanic Restaurant at Port Shepstone recently.
The event takes place at Ntelezi Msani Heritage Centre in Mtwalume this Saturday and Sunday (20 and 21st), from 09:00.
One of the event organisers, Howard Msomi, said it’s an exciting new chapter in Africa’s cultural and creative landscape.
“The festival is designed to provide a premium platform for the cultural and creative industry. It’s a celebration of African excellence, a space where the best of our talent is showcased and where our stories, sounds and artistic expressions take centre stage.”

He explained that Kurudi is a Swahili word meaning the return, hence, the underlying theme is the ‘Return of humanity, respect and dignity’ among Africans and all the people of the world.
“This event is more than a festival, it is a catalyst for local economic development and stands as a strong model for tourism transformation. Our aim is to stimulate economic activity, uplift local creatives and contribute meaningfully to the growth of cultural tourism across the continent. It’s designed to appeal to both international and local tourists, offering an authentic and immersive cultural journey. Audiences will experience a rich programme featuring theatre, music, dance, poetry, fashion, visual arts and crafts, all presented by talented artists who reflect the depth and diversity of our heritage,” added Msomi.
More than 50 artists and indigenous groups will participate in the inaugural edition and their involvement affirms their commitment to inclusivity, representation and the preservation of indigenous knowledge systems.
“Among the artists are Mthobisi Mthalane, Sbonelo Mlita, Themba Ncama, Zeph Nzama, Faith Disane, Khulekani Shongwe and Kwenza Nzama. This is a family event as children are provided with fun in the kidszone. From 2028, more than 15 local venues will be used to ensure broader community participation and expanded access to the festival’s activities. These venues will be located in Umzumbe Municipality and Ugu District,” said Msomi.
