Help is at hand for gender-based violence victims

Victim friendly rooms provide a safe environment.

With the large number of gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) cases being reported this year, police inform local communities that help is always at hand.

Saps has gender-based violence desks at every police station to ensure that cases receive priority attention.
There are 1161 designated victim friendly rooms at police facilities which include police stations, contact points, satellite police stations, two international airports and at Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Units.

Victim friendly rooms aim to provide a space for victims of intimate violence (gender-based violence, child abuse, sexual offences and domestic violence) to ensure their statements are taken in private in a non-threatening environment.

Dial the emergency line on 10111, or make an anonymous call on Saps Crime Stop number on 08600 10111.
