Swimmers bag medals, improve times

The club has started the season in style.

Blue Ocean Aquatics swimmers brought home 14 medals from the recent KZN premier champs.

This comprised five gold, one silver and eight bronze medals, won by three swimmers in their respective age groups.

Peter Koegelenberg (12-13) had a fantastic event, taking gold in the 200m freestyle, 400m freestyle and 800m freestyle.

He had to settle for silver in the 1500m freestyle and then picked up bronze in the 200m breaststroke, 200m individual medley and 100m freestyle.

On overall events, he had a 77.29 second time improvement.

His older sister Kirsty (14-15) clinched gold in the 100m freestyle and 200m freestyle races.

She was third in the 400m freestyle, 200m breaststroke and 200m individual medley.

Kirsty’s time improvement on events swum was 5.15 seconds.

Leah Scott (16 and over) claimed silver in the 50m butterfly and bronze in the 50m freestyle.

Her time improvement was 0.41 seconds.

Ella Bunge (14-15) managed fourth in 50m butterfly, fifth in 100m breaststroke, fifth in 50m freestyle. Her time improvement was 6.29 seconds over all events

Zuriel Pakkiri (12-13) was fifth in the 50m butterfly and sixth in 100m breaststroke, with a time improvement of 4.48 seconds.

Marnu Koekemoer (16 and over) had a personal best time in the 100m freestyle.

Blue Ocean placed twelfth out of 25 clubs.

Peter also recently took part in the 3km Baynesfield open water swim and swam an SA Open water qualifying time.

He now has the opportunity to enter the SA open water to be held in J-Bay on March 7.
