Port Shepstone Regional Hospital bids farewell to doctor

Dr Kamlin Ekambaram is wished well.

Port Shepstone Regional Hospital recently hosted a farewell function for Dr Kamlin Ekambaram, who is leaving the hospital to pursue full-time PhD studies.

The function was organised by the head of the emergency department, Dr Bavani Naicker and Dr Boitomelo Kubheka, along with other colleagues in the emergency unit.

Ekambaram joined the hospital in July 2021 as a medical officer in the emergency department. During his tenure, he made significant clinical, academic and managerial contributions, including completing a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Professions Education, advancing studies in echocardiography, and actively participating in eHealth initiatives, disaster planning and mentorship programmes.

He has been awarded the prestigious Netcare-Professor Bongani Mayosi Scholarship, which will allow him to focus on research using artificial intelligence to improve access to cardiac diagnostics in low-resource settings.

At the farewell, Ekambaram received praise from hospital management, colleagues and UKZN stakeholders for his professionalism, intellectual contribution and positive engagement in emergency services.

The beautifully organised event reflected on his journey at the hospital and concluded with a buffet held in his honour. Although leaving full-time service, Ekambaram has committed to remain involved in teaching and quality improvement initiatives.

The hospital wishes him well in his future academic endeavours.
