Motorists urged to consider learner safety
Slow down near schools, respect scholar patrols, stay patient during peak times and remain alert at all times.
With schools back in full swing, the safety of learners is paramount. A local security company, Lazer 911, calls on all role-players to play a part in ensuring children’s safety on local roads, as it takes a whole village to raise a child.
Tactical response officer, Rujesh Baburam said, “As our learners returned to school last week, Lazer 911 calls on our entire community to come together and place the safety of our children first. Keeping children safe is not the responsibility of parents alone, it belongs to all of us. Our shared goal is about protecting our children and how we can protect them together. Parents and guardians must talk to their children about safety, encourage them to walk with friends, avoid strangers and speak up if something feels wrong.”

Baburam advised motorists to slow down near schools, respect scholar patrols, stay patient during peak times and remain alert at all times.
He also urged learners to be aware of their surroundings and not accept lifts or gifts from strangers, but to go straight home after school.
“Community members and neighbours, be extra vigilant around schools and routes used by learners and report any suspicious activity, vehicles, or persons immediately because a safe school starts with a caring community. Prevention starts with us. Let’s work together to build a safer, stronger community, where every child can learn and grow without fear,” said Baburam.
