Clean unqualified audit opinion for Ugu District Municipality
The achievement can be attributed to monitoring, evaluation and application of internal controls.
Ugu District Municipality was praised by the Auditor General of South Africa for its significant improvement in financial management and governance, and received an unqualified audit opinion, with strong elements of a clean audit for 2024-2025.
Ugu mayor Sikhumbuzo Mqadi stated that this unqualified audit opinion was achieved with no material findings on the annual financial statements and performance information, which means that these two critical areas were declared as clean.
“This marks an unprecedented achievement in the history of the municipality and reflects a substantial improvement in governance outcomes, particularly within a challenging operating environment. This accomplishment demonstrates the municipality’s sustained efforts toward improvement. It reflects diligent work, determination, and a disciplined, strategic approach by management, guided by robust oversight from council leadership.”
Mqadi added that this achievement is attributable to management’s rigorous emphasis on monitoring, evaluation, and the consistent application of internal controls, all supported by a commitment to principles of sound and transparent governance.
“Ugu remains committed to building on this achievement and continuing to safeguard public resources while improving service delivery for the benefit of all communities across the district.”
