Temples observe Kavady prayer

Hindus on the South Coast celebrated the annual Thaipoosam Kavady which concluded on Sunday.

For many Hindus on the South Coast, the 10 days of fasting for the annual Thaipoosam Kavady festival ended on Sunday.

Every year, devotees gather at the Umzimkuluwana Shri Siva Soobramoniar Temple, Port Shepstone Tamil Association and the Umbango Sri Siva Soobramoniar Temple to worship Lord Muruga.

The Kavady is carried on the devotee’s shoulder from a river or ground to Lord Muruga’s shrine at a temple.
