Men and women in blue honoured at Umkomaas police station

Fallen heroes were remembered and support offered to survivors.

Umkomaas Saps members celebrated National Police Day recently by honouring the dedication, sacrifice and invaluable service of police officers who work tirelessly to ensure community safety.

The local members also honoured fallen heroes and offered support to survivors.

Every year at the Umkomaas station, members take a moment to remember these heroes of the nation.

“We acknowledge the sacrifices made by our colleagues including depriving themselves of sleep, family time and social lives to patrol the streets and maintain law and order,” said Umkomaas Saps spokesperson, Captain Ranjith Rampersad.

“We emphasise the resolve to fight crime and appeal to communities to work together with police to ensure safety and security.”

Lieutenant Colonel Mthembeni Zungu said the dedication, resilience and commitment of police officers in the fight against crime are recognised.

“We acknowledge the courage and dedication of our finest officers. As the acting station commander of Umkomaas, I personally place on record the sterling service excellence of my personnel and hold them in high esteem.”
