Business start-up kits for Boboyi graduates

The graduates qualified in plumbing, catering, and sewing and fashion design.

Thirty six Ugu District youths who graduated from the Tolomane Mnyayiza Youth Skills Development Centre in Boboyi recently, received business start-up kits from the Ugu District Department of Social Development and its stakeholders.

The graduates have committed to using the kits effectively to start their own businesses and to change the youth unemployment statistics in the district.

Sewing and fashion design graduate Nomvelo Nhlumayo is pleased to receive a kit.

District director of social development, Thobile Khuzwayo, said an integrated youth development strategy was launched in November 2024 to develop and empower the youth of the province by equipping them with the essential skills, support, and opportunities to influence their futures, so they become change agents in communities.

“The initiative emphasises empowerment through four primary pillars: skills development, economic participation, youth mobilisation, and capacity building. By utilising youth centres and academies, the strategy aims to provide comprehensive training, promote self-reliance, and address issues of unemployment. Its goal is to enable youth to become active and self-reliant contributors to the economy of KZN through collaborative efforts and structured programmes.”

The handover was attended by various stakeholders which encouraged the youths to pursue entrepreneurship.
