Accolades for top matrics at Ray Nkonyeni Municipality excellence awards

The Department of Education's senior official, Ronald Woods, said it's good to give credit where it's due.

The top 2025 matric achievers from various high schools were celebrated at the Ray Nkonyeni Municipality matric excellence awards at the Port Shepstone Civic Centre recently.

Stakeholders shared powerful celebratory messages to inspire the next round of top achievers.

The Department of Education’s senior official, Ronald Woods, said it’s good to give credit where it’s due.

“The matric class of 2025 made us proud. Ugu District has been a beacon of light in KZN that is why the province is number one nationally. It does not matter whether a school is in an urban or rural setting, it’s the learners’ responsibility to apply 100% effort.”

Municipal spokesperson Simon April thanked sponsors, Idwala Carbonates, Rossin Mining, NPC, Umgeni Uthukela Water, Vodacom, Gagasi FM, Lucky’s Sports, Shepstone and Wylie Attorneys, Port Shepstone Institute of Technology and the Department of Education.

Mayor Zodwa Mzindle said: “You have made us proud, your hard work has finally paid off. We know that some of you come from poor backgrounds, you have made your families proud, continue working hard to uplift them.”

At the event are (from left) RNM exco councillor Zamani Ndwalane, chief whip Teddy Hlophe, Amahle Ngidi of St Martin De Poress School, mayor Zodwa Mzindle and exco councillor Thuleleni Khanyase.

Mzindle appealed to principals to inform learners of the mayoral bursary programme, offering registration fees assistance to needy students. As applications close on January 30, learners are advised to go to the RNM Youth Office.

Port Shepstone Secondary’s Ethan Naicker who shone nationally scooped the most awards for Quintile 1-5 schools and St Martin De Porres’ Amahle Ngidi who also placed nationally scooped top awards for special schools.

Many other top performing learners and local schools were also awarded for their excellence. Awardees received certificates, trophies, laptops and other items to support their further education.
