South Coast Fever

Season starts for Southport biker

Things can only go from strength to strength for this young rider.

The national XCO Series in under way and Mannetjie Pienaar (10) of Southport has been in the thick of things.

He travelled to Bethlehem in the Free State for the opener on February 14 but despite it being Valentine’s Day, he did not necessarily ‘love’ how things went.

The Maluti track proved to be more difficult than he has previously experienced, with some challenging obstacles. He also had some problems with his bike and he ended up in sixth place.

Still, he is not discouraged and used the experience to improve his strategy for future races.

His next event was the Wartburg Classic where he placed second in his age group and ninth overall in his race distance.

This was out of 136 riders across all age groups, so his training with Charles Stander is paying off and more excellent results are anticipated in the future.
