Lengthy jail term for Ezinqoleni sex offender
Luvuyo Veve Ngcobo will serve a lengthy term of imprisonment for the violent crimes.
A 28-year-old man will spend a combined 23 years behind bars after being convicted of rape and attempted rape in the Ezinqoleni area.
Luvuyo Veve Ngcobo (28) was sentenced in the Ezinqoleni Magistrate’s Court earlier this month following two separate attacks.
In the first incident, on January 27, 2022, a 28-year-old man was walking home at Shobashobane Ward in Ezinqoleni when Ngcobo threatened him with a knife. He forced the victim to go to his house, where he raped him.
Ngcobo was arrested by police and later released on bail.
While out on bail, on December 4, 2023, he followed a 19-year-old woman home. He grabbed her and attempted to drag her into nearby bushes. When he tried to strangle her, she fought back and screamed for help. A neighbour came outside, prompting Ngcobo to flee.
Police rearrested Ngcobo, and he remained in custody.
In the rape case, investigated by Sergeant Nandipha Boqwana, Ngcobo was convicted and sentenced to 15 years’ direct imprisonment.
In the attempted rape case, investigated by Constable Syabonga Sedikwe, he was sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment.
The sentences mean Ngcobo will serve a lengthy term of imprisonment for the violent crimes committed in the Ezinqoleni community.
