A 46-year-old mom of three has been added to the growing statistics of women who are dying in a violent manner.
The latest victim, Slindile Ngwekazi from Mabheleni Location near Port Shepstone, was gunned down by an unknown man in the presence of her children and grandchildren last Sunday.
“The gunman fled in an unknown vehicle. The motive for the murder is yet to be determined,” said police in a statement.
Anyone with information should contact the investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Thabani Dlamini, on 039-6953000 or 078 1178978.
A family member who wished to remain anonymous is convinced that the mastermind behind the murder is within the family.
She said a family member, close to the deceased, would walk around the community and boast he would kill her. “They were not getting along for a long time. Everyone in the village knew their story. He would talk openly, even in public that he would kill her, and now here are the results. Their situation had been reported to the cops, not once and not twice, but countless times,” she said.
She further said there was a protection order between the two. She said she is scared because someone else could be killed.
One of Slindile’s daughters, who also asked to remain anonymous, said the manner in which her mom was killed has left the family shattered.
“The family knows the story. You can ask anyone in the community, my mother’s situation is well-known. The suspected killer did say in December last year that he will murder mom in February. As the children, we are not safe either,” she said.
She added it was just after 19:00 when a young man knocked on the door and asked to see her mother. “He refused to give his name. Mom had opened the door and the man wanted to come in and she refused to let a stranger in. He then said that he had been sent to solve the family problems. He shot mom four times and ran away.”
