Top cop vows to fight crime

Hibberdene Saps station commander, Lieutenant Colonel Zanovuyo Qwebani believes in being on the ground where there are problems.

At the launch of the Moffat ‘Killer’ Zuma football tournament at Dazela Guesthouse in Mfazazane, Mtwalume recently, Hibberdene Saps station commander, Lieutenant Colonel Zanovuyo Qwebani revealed that crime is on the rise in the community.

However, the top cop vowed to fight crime tooth and nail. He added he is not one to sit in an office, but believes in being on the ground where there are problems.

Qwebani said he took up the post of station commander in Hibberdene in 2025, however, he is not new in the region as he was previously the commander of Public Order Policing in Port Shepstone.

He said: “I am a person of meetings, but I am also found on the ground, I am not afraid. I am a person who likes to be where there are problems, so I am able to find out what is it that my colleagues are failing in, so I can intervene.”

“There are times as commanders we allow pressure from the media and the court of public opinion. We have to leave a clear trail where we have passed,” he said.
