New post for Ray Nkonyeni Municipality town planning head
Speaker of RNM Phumlani Gumbi said that Dalisu Zulu is one of few HODs who understood transformation.
Ray Nkonyeni Municipality’s (RNM) head of department for planning and development services, Dalisu Zulu (Mntwana wase Njikini), has taken up the post of municipal manager at eDumbe Municipality in north-western KZN.
The municipality’s staff and leadership organised a surprise farewell function for him at the Techno hub in Izotsha recently.
Zulu who holds a masters in town and regional planning joined RNM in 2023.
Originally from KwaNongoma in northern KZN, he previously worked at eDumbe Municipality, Abaqulisi Municipality, Umlalazi Municipality and Eskom.
“At RNM I gained experience and faced challenges like any other municipality. One of the challenges was during the workers’ protest, but with the leadership we managed to sort things out.”
Speaker of RNM Phumlani Gumbi said that Zulu became a hero when he joined the institution.
He said that for some people change is not easy, no matter which direction they are asked to take.
“He came with change. He is one of the few HODs who understood transformation. Whoever is going to join us as the new head will have big shoes to fill.”
Deputy mayor Sbusiso Shange said working with Zulu was not just a job, but it was also about gaining experience.
“If we ever stepped on toes, bear in mind that it was not personal, but work related.”
Speaking on behalf of the HODs, Mthandeni Ndwalane, said Zulu’s valuable input will be missed.
A co-worker Syabonga Khwela said that Zulu had changed the whole scenario of being an HOD and thanked the leadership for allowing him to do things the way he did for his department.
“We’ve always had open discussions with him and we could speak to him openly about work. He was not just our boss.”
