Record catches at Paddock fishing competition

A total of 1 037.14kg of fish were brought to the scales, with 303 anglers successfully weighing in their catches.

The 2026 Paddock Fishing Competition proved to be one for the books, with an exceptional turnout and impressive catches recorded over the weekend.

As the dust settled and lines were reeled in, the Paddock Fishing Competition Committee reflected on a highly successful event that once again showcased the strength and spirit of the local fishing community.

Muzi Gcaba took top spot for heaviest tilapia at 1.740kg.

A total of 1 037.14kg of fish were brought to the scales, with 303 anglers successfully weighing in their catches. Across the weekend, officials recorded an impressive 615 weigh-ins, highlighting both the level of participation and the quality of fishing.

Competition was fierce throughout, but two standout catches earned top honours.

Karel Beetge secured the title for heaviest bass with a notable catch of 3.430kg, while Muzi Gcaba took top spot for heaviest tilapia at 1.740kg.

Esman Otto won first ladies bass weighing in at 1.600kg.

The committee praised the strong support from the angling community, noting that the event continues to grow year after year.

They extended their appreciation to all participants, from seasoned anglers to first-time competitors, whose enthusiasm and sportsmanship contributed to the vibrant atmosphere.

Gratitude was also expressed to the 252 sponsors whose generous contributions of prizes, equipment and funding ensured the continued success of the competition.

With another successful event concluded, the Paddock Fishing Competition remains a firm highlight on the local calendar, bringing together community, competition and a shared love for fishing.
