Ugu Jazz Festival back by popular demand

The event is set to take place at Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre on June 27.

Organisers of the Ugu Jazz Festival are pulling all strings to ensure they dish up one of the best events on the South Coast entertainment calendar.

This was evident at the official launch at the Mushroom Lounge in Umhlanga Rocks on April 17. The festival is set to take place at Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre on June 27.

This event is the brainchild of Ugu District Municipality and entertainment events planner, Coolsounds Events Management.

The revealed line-up speaks for itself. It comprises jazz gurus Ernie Smith, Don Laka, Bongani Nkwanyana, Siphokazi, Mondli Ngcobo and DJ Muntu Jikeleza, blended with young blood, Naledi Aphiwe, Mqobi Yazo, Mawelele, Olefield Khetha and others.

According to managing director of Cool Sounds Event Management, Siyabonga Msomi, it has been a bit challenging to organise this event.

“It was not easy this year, we understand that our legends are not as many as before. Legends like Caiphus (Semenya) can no longer travel due to age. We looked at the market, as much as we need legends, we should be able to balance that with what younger generation want, and we tried to squeeze in young artists,” said Msomi.

Ugu mayor, Skhumbuzo ‘Zero’ Mqadi said the district is more than ready to welcome patrons and show them what it has to offer.
