Members of the public are encouraged to report illegal firearms and any criminal activity to their nearest police station.

A 36 year old man accused of renting out a firearm to others who then allegedly committed crimes has been arrested and denied bail.

Members of the Harding Task Team acted on information about an unlicensed firearm and proceeded to an address in Bhekene Ward under KwaMachi last on April 16.

The firearm will be subjected to ballistic testing to determine whether it was used in other criminal activities.

The owner appeared in the Harding Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and unlicensed ammunition. The matter was postponed for further investigation.

Bail was opposed and the accused remains in police custody.
