THE coast’s top bodyboarders will meet on a chosen day this coming weekend to stake their respective claims to the provincial titles on offer at the eagerly awaited Southern KwaZulu-Natal Bodyboarding Association (SKZNBA) champs.
The champs are by no means an event exclusively for long term competitive bodyboarders, and this contest weekend represents a real chance for any Southern KZN bodyboarders seeking to surf at a provincial level in a relaxed, friendly environment.
SKZNBA urges any riders thinking of competing in the future to attend and soak up the experience of surfing with friendly, talented competitors in a high performance environment.
This year sees the inclusion of a development division, providing an arena for the novice riders to begin their competitive bodyboarding careers.
All divisions will have prizes for the finalists, and to this end SKZNBA is in the process of negotiating with major industry players with the intent being to provide the top riders with epic rewards from stalwarts of the South African surf industry.
The contest venue and day will be dependent on short term swell and wind forecasts as well as respective beach conditions and, as such, a decision will be announced on the Blowout Bodyboarding and Southern KwaZulu-Natal facebook pages.
Contest registration will take place on the chosen morning, with all entrants required to arrive and register at 7am sharp, at a cost of R100 per rider for entry into the development, boys, juniors, men, pro, DK, masters, ladies or grandmaster divisions.
All respective trophy holders are asked to ensure that trophies are returned on the day, or before the event, to one of the committee members.
In the past the event has been known to bring out the best in every rider, with some exceptional performances securing the provincial trophies and prizes.
As well as presenting an elevated standard of riding as a drawcard to the riders, championships are a lively social event for supporters and families.
It promises to be a fun weekend on the beach, come and support your favourite rider, those cheers from the beach have a large effect in the water!
