Women bowlers fly the flag
CONGRATULATIONS to the district women who were placed second overall in the Quadrangular Tournament held in Durban last weekend.
The men, unfortunately, didn’t fare so well and were placed fourth overall. The good news however, is that the president’s sides will be retained after a three to one vote in favour secured their future participation.
The closing date for both the Specsavers Pro 10 and KBA men’s and women’s fours is coming up on January 23.
Please make sure that details are filled in correctly and on the official entry forms sent out. If entry forms are not returned in the prescribed manner they will not be accepted.
By now all midweek league players should have been informed that the games that were rained out on February 5 will now be played on March 4 at the prescribed venues.
The finals will be played at the Village on April 15.
The closing date for the KBA green keepers’ competition entries is February 16.
The competition will be in the morning at Margate Bowling Club. There is no entry fee payable.

NOMADS
NOMADS held its recent outing at the Village green last Sunday. There were 30 players, including two visitors.
First prize went to Annette Payne, Eric Chamier and Keith Roach, while second went to Hans Hugo, Neville Philpott and Mickey Jansen.
In third place were Clive Edmundson, Herman Scheinberg and Jean Bouverie.
The sportsman’s prize was awarded to Betty Bolton, Vicki de Beer and Mike Ryan.
Nearest the jack, sponsored by Orange River Cellars, was Dawn Oehley.
The 50/50 draw was won by Christine Faber.
The next outing will be on March 8, venue to be announced.

MUNSTER
CLIFF and Margaret Moakes are the new nominated mixed pairs champions.
Sergio and Pat Ruperto won the Indulgence mixed pairs with Tony and Val Smith the runners-up.
Second session went to Peter and Serena Ziervogel and the board to Hazel Delaney.
The club will be hosting a medieval banquet on March 27.
Tabs in on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays will be at 2.30pm for 3pm, summer times.

MARGATE CC
THE first women’s fours of the year, sponsored by The Hair Shoppe, was played last Friday and the winners were Heather Roberts, Dora Vosloo, Annette Coomer and Helen Proctor.
The runners-up were Yvonne van Mentz, Jean Marnewick, Gae Gravell and Val Erasmus. Betty Bolton won the 50/50 raffle.
The Hibiscus Retirement Village men’s trips was also held last Tuesday and the winners were Rassie Erasmus, Justus Bezuidenhout and Jannie van der Nest.
Runners-up were Alan Tyers, Brian Hughes and Norman Isherwood. The session prize went to Gary Hess, Arthur Orr and Bill Parfitt. Bill Eccles won the 50 /50 draw.

WINNERS of the Hopden’s Kwikspar open trips were Trevor Anderson, Jannie van der Nest and Henry Bazaka.
Runners-up were Doreen van der Westhuisen, Harry Nicolson and Sharon Smith.
First session went to Barbara Iceton, John Gibson and Arnold Ossendryer.
Olwen Gibbs, Ann Osbourn and Dick Thomlinson took the second session.
The next sponsored competiton is Cupboard Value trips, tabs in, on Thursday, February 19 at 1.30pm. Teams to be drawn.
The Valentine’s Day picnic will be held on Saturday, February 14. Dress code is red and white.
Twilight bowls will start at 3.30pm followed by the picnic.

HEATHER Roberts, Mal Sheppard, Jimmy Ronald and Wynand Bezuidenhout won the Mariners Restaurant open fours last Thursday.
Runners-up were Herman Scheinberg, Paul Botes, Sharon Scheinberg and Marianne Beaton.
First session went to Graham Fisher, Hein Bester, Doug Campbell and Rene Jover and the second session to Philip Lotter, Elliot Nqoko, Norma Ronald and Duncan Biggar. 50/50 to Mike Gamble.
The farewell for Philip Lotter will be on Thursday, February 12 after bowls. Bring a plate of snacks.
The Valentine’s Day bowls and braai will be this Sunday, February 15 at 8.30am for 9pm. Bring braai meat and a salad.
The Stuart Weaving competition against a team from England will be on Thursday, February 19.

The next sponsored competitions at the club are Wingnuts Plumbing mixed 2-4-2 on Monday, February 16, Martin Electronics men’s 2-4-2 on February 19th.
Draws are up for the club handicapped singles.
The winners of the Fruit and Veg mixed trips were Hazel Hosken with Fred Askham and Monica Middlewick, followed by Brian Hughes with Gill Davies and Mike Ryan and Rosemary Esterhuysen with Nora Hill, Johan van Niekerk and Ken Habben.
There will be bingo this Friday and Russian hot dogs and boerewors rolls will be on sale.
Don’t forget to wear something red for Valentine’s Day on the 14th – and please bring snacks to share after bowls.

THE Estuary and GP Security sponsored mixed pairs played on February 6 was won by Barry Payn and Phillipa Rowney, with runners-up Sergio Ruperto and Val Smith.
Second session was won by Joe Ashworth and Amy Korner, while the 50/50 board went to John Meyer.
Next sponsored competition will be the Banners Rest mixed trips on Thursday, February 19 (moved from February 18).
Note that the KBA closing date for entries to the men’s and women’s fours is February 23 latest. Entry forms are on the notice board.

THE Marlin open trips was won by Barry Payn, Trevor Smith and Phillipa Rowney. Leigh and Mary Warner partnered up with Frank Foley to take the runners-up spot.First session was won by Jokkie van Buuren, Marianne van Buuren and Estelle Carter. Peter Ziervogel, Ally Weir and Sariena Ziervogel won the second session.
Thanks must go to those members who assisted in hosting KBA midweek league on February 5.
There will be twilight bowls this Friday from 3.30pm. It is a Valentine theme so dress in red and white and bring a plate of eats to share.
The Stuart Weaving tour of UK bowlers visits on February 18. Add your name to the list if you would like to play, this event replaces the normal tabs in at 2pm.
There will also be an MTN fun day on February 20 at 2.30pm which is also open to non-bowlers, so bring a friend.

THURSDAY, February 12 is the South Coast Herald mixed 2-4-2, while the in house two-bowl trips takes place this Friday.

THE Remax 3000 (rounds 5 and 6) played last week were won by Marie Coetzer and team.
Second place went to Keith Mills and team while in third were Chris Snyman and team.
The next round will be on Wednesday, February 18. The log leaders are Keith Mills and team. Second are Danie Human and team and third place is held by Ollie Coetzer and team.
The Jaxx restaurant nominated mixed trips played last Friday afternoon was won by Keith Mills, Felicity van Rensburg and Mike King. Second were Bruce and John Hoyer with Napier Seager, Lionel France and Joey Venter. A very big thank you to Lee Barker for this generous sponsorship.
The next competition is the nominated mixed trips sponsored by Hibberdene Pharmacy.
The club’s novices singles has commenced, so good bowling to these new players.
Karaoke will be held at the clubhouse on St Valentine’s Day, R50 per person.

TRISH Steyn is welcomed on the committee as honorary secretary. Barbara Brook is thanked for all her hard work over the last few years.
She has served in various positions on the committee and is wished every success in her new position on the KBA executive.The winners of the Margate Panelbeaters men’s 2-4-2 last Friday were Dave Hume and John Keppler, with runners-up being Denzil Massyn and Chris Abram.
First session went to Ron Canning and Tony Simmonds, while second session went to Henry Jacobs and Manny Rodrigues.
The next sponsored tournaments will be the Fruit and Veg men’s trips this Friday morning, followed by the Manaba Kwikspar women’s 2-4-2 o February 20.

Concert practice for the Margate Week show takes place in the clubhouse every Monday afternoon at 3pm.
