THE South Coast Warriors beat Harlequins 2 in a lopsided final in the Nashua South Coast Sevens tournament played at Douglas Mitchell Sports Grounds last Saturday.
The final score was 40-14 with the home side producing some sparkling running rugby.
It was a successful day, not just for the Warriors, but the spectators too, who enjoyed the fantastic weather.
Clive McLean of Nashua South Coast was thanked for the sponsorship.
The club hopes the event will continue to grow and be even bigger and better next year.
Plate winners were the Ladysmith Bulldogs.
Bowl winners were the Ballito Dolphins and the Shield winners were Harlequins 1.
The tournament consisted of four groups with the top two of each group competing for the cup and the bottom two for the bowl.
In the semi-finals, the Warriors beat Scottburgh while Harlequins 2 beat Kapaailand.
The Warriors had four senior teams on the day, plus an U20 Vikings team.
“The weather was a surprise for us as rain had been forecast the whole week. But the fitness levels showed and the boys pulled through nicely,” said head coach Christo Henderson.
Gas-man Marcell Sass scored the most tries (no surprise really) and was also named as player of the tournament.
There’s no rugby this weekend, so the players will have some time to spoil their loved ones on St Valentine’s Day.
Then the Warriors will start to get more serious, with friendlies against Pinetown (away) and Crusaders (home on February 28) before travelling to Kokstad for the East Griqualand 10’s tournament on March 7 and then back home for the Usher Cup.
