Day 3: Irish eyes are smiling

The first upset is out of the way.

IRELAND proved (again) that they belong at World Cups with a four wicket win over the woeful West Indies.

The Windies batted first and amassed 304/7 but not before being 90 odd for 5.

It took a century from Lendl Simmons and 89 from Darren Sammy to resurrect the innings.

In reply, Ireland made it look a little to easy.

Okay, they stuttered a bit on the final lap, but by then the lead was so big it didn’t matter.

I wonder if Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard watched the game…

From a South African perspective, this perhaps pours some rather cold water on our recent crushing of the Windies at home.

And considering how well Zimbabwe did against us … perhaps we aren’t quite the finished product we think we are.

Let’s just take it a game at a time.
