GOLFER Simone Ferreira of Margate Country Club helped the KwaZulu-Natal SA Kids team to third place at a mini-interprovincial held in Johannesburg last weekend.
The team’s best five scores were used and on both days Simoné’s scores counted.
Rain and lightning caused a delay for at least two-and-half hours on the Saturday.
This meant the players finished the round in the ‘twilight’. Conditions were tough after the storm, with the fairways soggy.
On Sunday morning, the tee off times were pushed earlier, which was just as well as more bad weather arrived, resulting in the round being shortened a bit.

TENSE BATTLES AT SOUTHBROOM
IT’S been a busy time at Southbroom Golf Club of late.
The Southern KwaZulu-Natal golf team overcame Cotswold Downs in an extremely tight game, with Marc Bormann holing the winning putt for birdie – more than knee-knocker distance – on the final hole.
The end result was a 6,5-5,5 victory which comes as a relief to a team without some of its stars this season. The next game will be against Royal Durban, also at Southbroom, on April 19.
The following day the senior women played for the Gladys Paul Trophy, which was won by Southbroom’s Augustine D’Ewes on 46 points.
Michelle van der Hoek was second on 37 points, counting out Helene Hissey. Rene Matthew was fourth on 36 points.
Nearest the pins were Agnes Spielman (4th) and Michelle van der Hoek (11th).
Geraldine Treherne walked away with the stunning Carol Boyle raffle.

MELISSA AND JACO COME CLOSE
MELISSA Eaton of Port Shepstone Country Club finished fourth in the Investec Cup for Ladies at Lost City Golf Course.
Lee-Anne Pace won on a score of 210 over three rounds. Melissa had 73, 80 and 71.
Former member Jaco van Zyl lost out in a play-off to Jaco Ahlers in the Investec Cup Trophy.
