Australia overpower India

The final is on Sunday at 5.30am.

THE Australians were just too good for India in the second semi-final of the Cricket World Cup, played at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Not even Captain Fantastic MS Dhoni could save them in a run chase which was very tough, even from the start.

Australia made 328, with Steve Smith’s sensational form continuing, with another century.

India fell 95 runs short.

Theirs wasn’t a terrible defence of the title they won in India four years ago.

Now the Aussies play the Kiwis in the final at Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday.

It’s the Black Caps first final.

The Australians, meanwhile, have won four times (1987, 1999, 2003, 2007) and been in two other finals (losing to the West Indies in 1975 and to Sri Lanka in 1996).

I can’t see anything other than a comprehensive win for Australia.

New Zealand, some feel, have peaked, using up all their emotional energy against South Africa.
