Bowlers overcome inclement weather
AFTER playing in the not-so-great weather the winners of the women’s fours, played at Scottburgh on Monday, after a nail-biting last end, were Kobie Stander, Dora Vosloo, Gae Gravell and Helen Procter from Margate Country Club.
The runners-up were Daphne Sapsford, Margie Randall, Tina Barbour and Mada Lindeque from The Bell.
Third place went to Jessica Henderson, Ellen Cawker, Barbara Brook and Georgie McKechnie from Margate Bowling Club.
In fourth place were Maureen Muller, Colleen Baker, Barbara Gradwell and Sharon Bischoff from Port Shepstone Country Club.
The men’s fours winners, coming back from 11-1 down, were Chris Forward, Shane Nienaber, Athol Robertson and Jonathan Jacobson.
Runners-up were Phil Myburgh, Murray Ross, John Nadauld and Kevin Lancaster.
Third place went to Louw Vermeulen, Keiron Dacey, Keith Harcombe and Trevor Celliers from The Bell.
In fourth place were Duncan Randall, Hew Hodgson, Renzo van Niekerk and Eric Roberson, also from The Bell.
The KBA executive thanked those involved in making the tournament such a success.
To resolve the problems which have arisen in the league timetable due to the change in dates for the MCC Challenge, the executive has decided to delay the start of all leagues until April 25.
Should it be necessary, June 13 can be utilised. Please inform your members accordingly.
There will be a farewell party for Esta and Bernie Wenzel at Margate Bowling Club on April 1 at 4pm.
The invitation is extended to markers, technical officials, club representatives and bowlers.
Those attending are asked to bring a small plate of eats.
MARGATE BC
WINNERS of the Manaba Kwikspar women’s 2-4-2 last Friday were Pam Cole-Cook and Vi Pells, followed by Kobie Stander and Dora Vosloo. Session went to Ellen Cawker and Jessica Henderson.
Congratulations to Chris Forward, Shane Nienaber, Athol Robertson and Jonathan Jacobson on winning the KBA men’s fours and Jessica Henderson, Ellen Cawker, Barbara Brook and Georgie McKechnie on their third place finish in the women’s section.
Sunday morning bowls are played in mufti and everyone is welcome.

ONLY one team won both their games in the nominated mixed trips last Friday, namely Keith Mills, Mike King and Maureen Vermaak.
Arthur and Miriam Seager with Louise Shone came second. Session prize went to John Mett with Isobel and Malky McManus.
Thanks to Hibberdene Pharmacy for its generous sponsorship. The Jolly Roger drawn trips is on April 27.
The club hosted two sections of the KBA men’s fours last weekend. Some very good bowls was seen with some last minute winners.
Once again, the catering and bar service was A1. Thank you to those responsible. Each team also praised the condition of the green.
The club is hosting the SpecSavers Pro10 this weekend. Play starts this Saturday at 9am.
The club celebrates its 50th anniversary tomorrow, Friday 27th, with a cocktail party to be held after bowls – all welcome.>
MARGATE CC
THE third round of the Engel & Volkers men’s fours was won by Barry Christie’s team comprising Barry, Brian Hughes, Ivan Hosken and Norman Isherwood.
Silver, on a shot count out, went to Chris Forward, Mike Jefferies, Alan Dinning and Danny McCarthy.
The leaderboard is now as follows: Barry Delvin’s team 59 points; Barry Christie’s team 52 points; Denzil Massyn’s team 50 points.
In the Hopden’s Kwikspar women’s trips the winners were Barbara Brook, Vicki de Beer and Yvonne Bausek.
Runners-up were Dora Vosloo, Georgie McKechnie and Sandi Ferguson.

RIVERSIDE
WINNERS of the Cupboard Value mixed trips last Thursday were Heather Flyng, Chrissie Chancellor and Johan van der Westhuizen.
Runners-up were Vi Eltis, Brian Cross and Marilyn Francis.
The next sponsored tournament is the Fruit and Veg mixed 2-4-2 this Friday, March 27.
The jumble sale will be held this Saturday, March 28.
Tabs in is played every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday afternoon at 1.30pm for 2pm (summer times).

JAN Huygen, Astrid Jackson, Mike Findlay and Nellie Davies won the 3rd Avenue mixed fours from Eric Grierson, Derick and Jean Cilliers, and Isabel Prenger.
The next event is the G & K women’s 2-4-2 to be played today (Thursday, March 26), followed by the South Coast Herald men’s pairs on April 7.
The club is holding a fun beach walk of about 4km on Family Day (Easter Monday), April 6 at 8am.
It will start and finish at the club, and will be followed by breakfast. Entry fee is R40 per adult and R12 per child under the age of 12.
This fee includes the breakfast. The walk is open to the public even if you are not a bowler. The more the merrier.

WINNERS of the Fruit & Veg 2-4-2 were Peet van Rooyen and Susan Fourie.
In second were Arthur and Miriam Seager and the session prize went to Kieron and Sharolyn Dacey.
SMG sponsored a most enjoyable BMW day last Friday. The winners were Eddie Fann, Howard Frizelle, Roy Anderson and Caroline Harris.

Irene Harris will be convening a quiz on Thursday, April 16 at 4pm for 4.30pm. Teams of four, R10 per person. Bar and food will be available.
Bowls are played every Wednesday and Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. Visitors welcome.
VILLAGE
THE winners of the Martin Electronics men’s 2-4-2 were Barry Christie and Norman Isherwood, followed by Alan Tyers and Brian Hughes.
Sessions went to Clive Bignell and Gerald Kinsey and to Bill Brown and Don Fowler on a count out from Hans Wijtman and Graham Fisher. Derrick Shell won the 50/50.

THE Dr D’Arcy men’s trips played last Thursday was won by Mike King, Bob Moroney and Richard Cochman, with Jan Snyman, George Choromanski and Tabie Jonker as runners-up.
Session prize went to Bez Bezuidenhout, Bruce and John Hoyer.
The winners of the Fruit & Veg City in-house pairs were Corrie Parsons and Peter Anderson with Brian Marriott and Jane Massam as runners-up. Third place went to Bob Moroney and Val Bedecker.
The Southport Service Station mixed trips will be played on Sunday, March 29 at 2pm.
BANNERS REST
THE Peg & Punter mixed trips was cancelled due to rain, with the next one due to take place on Wednesday, April 29.
