MARGATE CC
THE Margate Country Club had its annual premier event last week inviting bowlers, golfers and bridge players to compete over three days in an enjoyable yet very competitive challenge. Halfway Toyota Shelly Beach was the main sponsor together with Warwick Wealth, Alan Uzzell Upholsters and Engel & Volkers Property Shop. The cash prize money totalled over R10 000 allowing eight bowling teams to win prizes.
The competition runs on a ladder basis and the top teams can come up against each other more than once. The team with the greatest consistency will always come out victors. Bill Brown, Barry Herbert, Sharolyn Darcy and Dawn O’Healy came away eventual winners by only five points with a score of 104. Runners-up were Barry Delvin, Kobie Stander, Jimmy Holtzhausen and Winnie Hess with 99 points. Bronze went to Ollie Coetzer, Marie Coetzer, Keith Mills and Barbara Gradwell. Plate winners were Peet van Vuuren, Susan Fourie, Geoff and Tina Barbour. Olwen Gibbs won the Warwick Wealth tog bag and Graham Fisher was the lucky winner of the lounge armchair donated by Ann Church and refurbished by Alan Uzzell.
PORT SHEPSTONE
THE South Coast Herald was the sponsor of the women’s fours held recently. Winners were Colleen Baker, Sharon Bischoff , Margie Randall and Lynne Frizelle. A GREAT day to look forward to is Sunday April 19 at 8.30 am. The ‘bowls and braai’ will be South Africa versus The Rest. THE last session of the Remax 3000 was played last Wednesday. The winners were Allan Grey/ John Chamier and team. Second were Mike Mordaunt and team who tied with Chris Snyman and team. Shot aggregate was the decider. Overall winners were Keith Mills and team, followed by the teams of Chris Snyman (2), Marie Coetzer (3), Norman Aiston (4) and Mike Mordaunt (5). Last Friday afternoon, in the nominated mixed trips, Jan and Joey Venter with Eddie Milne were the overall winners. Second were Norman and Judy Aiston with Jenny Isemonger. RIVERSIDE
WINNERS of the Hopden’s Kwikspar open trips last Thursday were Heather Flyng, Hazel Williams and Mike Thompson; runners-up – Ron Battany, Dick Thomlinson and Joy Glatthaar. First sesson – Madge Nicolson, Jannie van der Nest and Johan van der Huizen; second session – Eddie Louw, Ann Gibson and Henry Bazaka. The next sponsored competition is the Cupboard Value drawn tabs in, at 1.30pm today (Thursday).
Pony evening is on Friday 24th starting with social bowls from 3pm for 3.30pm followed by an 80th birthday celebration for Chummy Smith. Get well soon wishes are sent to Sidney Ackerman. WINNERS of The Captain’s Anchor mixed fours were Luke Pohl, Johannie Theron, Maureen Head and Tina Barbour. Second were Daphne Sapsford, Mada Lindeque, Val Boshoff and Charles Murgatroyd. Third were Duncan and Margie Randall, Stan Sackett and Sandy van Niekerk.
There was a good turnout for the Chicken and Egg tabs in competition last Sunday. In the end Doug Burls’ team won the eggs and Inger Mitchell’s team the chickens. Nick van Niekerk got a prize for the most ‘touchers’.
Upcoming competitions are the Fruit & Veg 2-4-2 on Tuesday 21 and The Bell mixed trips on April 24. The Halfway Toyota mixed fours will be played on Friday, May 1. Please get your entries in as soon as possible. Kindly check the notice boards for all club and KBA news.

BANNERS REST
WELL done to the winners of the SuperSpar Port Edward mixed trips played on Wednesday April 8, Glen and Nova Allen with Andreas van der Linde. Runners-up were Steve Rennie, Hazel Delaney and Amorie Schoëler. Second session went to Ron Camps, Val Smith and Joan Fowler and the 50/50 board to Pam Gilson.
Winners of the Tops Port Edward men’s pairs played on Sunday April 12 were Dave Hume and Leigh Warner, with runners-up Glen Allen and Peter Ziervögel. Second session was won by Brian Camps and Ally Weir, while the 50/50 board went to Joe Ashworth.
Next sponsored competition is the Banners Rest women’s pairs on Wednesday April 22. Entries are invited to the men’s and women’s club singles championship (closing date April 22) and the KBA men’s and women’s pairs (closing date May 9), with entry forms for both on the notice board.

WINNERS of the Hibiscus Insurance Brokers’ mixed trips were Alan Tyers, Ken Hills and Denise Palframan followed by Betty Bolton, Ali Mitchell and Doug Kent. Sessions went to Barry Christie, Norman Isherwood and Aileen Ward and to Dave Garland, Reg Sanders and Dawn Ingle. Ali won the 50/50.

WINNERS of the Harbour View SuperSpar women’s trips played on April 7 were Maureen Head, Tina Barbour and Sandy van Niekerk with Marie Coetzer, Barbara Gradwell and Mada Lindeque as runners-up. Session prize went to Denise Nel, Jo Cordier and Sandy Shepherd.
The South Coast Herald mixed 2-4-2 will be played on Thursday April 16 in the morning. Club championship pairs will be played on Tuesday April 21 at 2pm. Members to check the notice board for game schedules.

THE Nomads’ outing at Margate Bowling Club on April 12 was attended by 33 members. Thanks to Margate Bowling Club for hosting the Nomads and the AGM that followed the game. It is with deep regret that we have to report the death of Ann Hattingh after a short illness bravely borne. Ann will be sorely missed. Sincere condolences to family and friends.

The Margate Week tournament is just around the corner; if you have not as yet entered your team, now is the time to get it in. A feast of entertainment, braais, pub evenings, Mel Miller live, lucky draws, etc have been planned for a great week. Concert practice for the Margate Week show takes place in the clubhouse every Monday afternoon at 3pm.
Sunday morning bowls is played in mufti and bowlers and non-bowlers, in flat-soled shoes, are welcome to come and join in. Coaching is available every Saturday morning from 9am. Eileen Abel can be contacted at 039 3122702 for coaching required during the week.
