Double delight for AMBC in midweek league
IT was a full house for AMBC last Wednesday in the long-awaited finals of the midweek league. Played in not the most favourable conditions, the intrepid competitors put on a brave display of top-notch bowls.
The winners of the men’s competition were Barry Ainslie, Allan Grey, Henry Hampson, and Rowan Bird and the women’s competition was won by Helen Turk, Jeanie Cousins, Anne Simpson and Maureen Lancaster. Both teams are from AMBC – a really great result for that club.
Runners-up were Port Shepstone’s Malcolm Baker, Jan Snyman, Howard Frizelle and Kevin Lancaster.
Runners-up in the women’s section were Ellen Cawker, Pam Cole-Cook, Ann Waugh and Sandy Jeffrey from Margate BC.
Congratulations are in order for Eddie Fann of Port Shepstone who has been selected to represent South Africa in The International Quadrangular which is due to take place in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe from July 30 to August 2. Eddie will play in the senior singles as well as skip the senior pairs.
Shane Nienaber from Margate BC has been invited to attend the National Camp which takes place at the Wanderers Club in Johannesburg from August 14 to 16.
MARGATE BC
WELL done to Ellen Cawker, Pam Cole-Cook, Ann Waugh and Sandy Jeffrey on their runners-up position in the KBA midweek league.
Winners of the Manaba Kwikspar comp were Lenie Geyer and Yvonne Bausek, with runners-up Pam Cole-Cook and Vi Pells.
Session – Sheena Absolom and Vicki de Beer. Sandy Jeffrey won the lucky draw.
The next sponsored tournaments will be the Mooirivier Brokers’ open 2-4-2 this Friday, April 24 and the Margate Panelbeaters’ men’s 2-4-2 on May 1.

HEDLEY Meek and David Lindley won the men’s drawn pairs last week.
The High Rock Pub & Grill open trips were won by Tommie and Louise Dry and Willie Smith.
Runners-up were Tony and Val Smith, with Hedley Meek.

SOUTHBROOM
THE Coffee on the Square women’s trips was won by Mal Sheppard, Lorraine Wijtman and Elaine Harrison.
Runners-up were Jean Purtell, Renee Jover and May Gates. First session Hilda Tod, Esme Strauss and Norma Ronald.
Second session Viv Date, Bonny Hills and Elize Bester.
Well done to Mal Sheppard and Sean Larkins who organised a fun trips, bowls and braai on Sunday with South Africa playing against The Rest. South Africa won convincingly.
Winter times come into operation on May 1.
THE BELL
THE Venture Inn/Jaxx/Homemakers open trips was won by Barry Delvin, Steve O’Moore and Mada Lindeque. Second were Peet van Rooyen, Susan Fourie and Inger Mitchell.
The session prize went to Hew Hodgson, Renzo van Niekerk and Martin Frizelle.
Irene Harris hosted a well-attended and enjoyable quiz evening. The winners were Duncan and Margie Randall with Desiree and Barry Krause.

WINNERS of the Hibiscus Retirement Villages’ men’s trips were Dereck Schorn, Ken Habben and Mike Ryan followed by Martiens Olivier, Arthur Orr and Bill Eccles.
Sessions went to Neels Boshoff, Hein Bester and Wynand Bezuidenhout and to Ali Mitchell, Doug Kent and Winston van Greune. Wynand also won the 50/50.
The winners of the Martin Electronics men’s 2-4-2 were Ali Mitchell and Doug Kent followed by Bill Parfitt and Fred van Niekerk on a count out from Ken Habben and Dennis Cox.
Sessions went to Carl Volker and Chris Allen and to Neville Holmes and Doug Campbell on a count out from Reg Sanders and Hein Bester. Brian Hughes won the 50/50.
Winners of the Hyundai drawn mixed trips were John Sutton, Irene and Hugh Holland and George Ball followed by Clive Bignell, Nancy Hughes and Winston van Greune.
The lucky draws went to Rosemary Esterhuysen, Doug Kent and Mike Ryan.

KEITH Mills and Tammy Gibbons won the South Coast Herald mixed 2-4-2, followed by Peet van Rooyen and Susan Fourie.
The session prize went to Barbara Sates and Peter Anderson.
The Dr D’Arcy men’s trips will be played today (Thursday, April 23).
The Serene Care mixed trips is on Sunday, April 26 and the Fruit & Veg City in-house 2-4-2 is on Tuesday, April 28.

BRIAN Rawlins and Kevin Lancaster won the South Coast Herald men’s pairs from runners-up Tickey Nel and Geoff Barbour, with Chris Jacobs and Derick Celliers taking the session prize.
Dennis Graham and Delia Lew won the Harbour View SuperSpar mixed pairs from runners-up Ty and Doreen Ferguson, with Jan Snyman and Eudelle Caney taking the session prize.
Doreen Ferguson, Derick Celliers and Frank Jardine won the Schooners Restaurant 3-2-1 scoring trips competition from second placed Elfriede Goosen, George Choramanski and Carol Oakes.
Jan Huygen, Astrid Jackson, Louis Marx and Nellie Davies won the 3rd Avenue mixed fours from runners-up Adele Reader, Tony Olivant, Kevin Mullen and Barry Krause.

THE Powerbond 2-4-2 competition was won by Murray Ross and Geoff Hudson from Roy Anderson and John Nadauld.

The women’s drawn pairs winners were Pam Cole-Cook and Amorie Schoëler.

THE Hopden’s Manaba Kwikspar women’s trip’s winners were Ellen Cawker, Pam Cole-Cook and Vi Pells.
Runners-up were Yvonne van Mentz, Jean Marnewick and Helen Proctor. Session prize went to Yvonne James, Sharon Scheinberg and Alison Dinning. The raffle was won by Vi Pells.
Next week is the men’s trips on Tuesday and the women’s fours on Friday.
The MCC women came third in the midweek league. Members of the team were Dora Vosloo, Gae Gravell, Kobie Stander, Helen Proctor and Di Abram.
PORT EDWARD
WELL done to Sandy Davis, Elbe Snyman, Myra Doubell, Phillipa Rowney and Anne Wells (midweek league team) for achieving fourth place overall in the finals.
Winner of the men’s novices championship was Rob Lyle from Jens Andersen.

Port Edward will be hosting the red section of the women’s Saturday League this Saturday from 8.30am.
Social bowls may be delayed by about 30 minutes, but will definitely take place after the league games are concluded.

THE nominated mixed trips was won by Ollie and Marie Coetzer with Joey Venter. Runners-up were Arthur and Miriam Seager and Louise Shone.
