Ellen flies KBA flag at nationals
HAVING already attained an impressive record at district, national and international tournaments, Ellen Cawker of Margate BC has done it again at this year’s Ladies’ Nationals held in Port Elizabeth, winning the silver medal as runner-up in the senior singles final.
Three of the last eight competitors were from the Kingfisher district, namely Ellen, Liesje de Rosner of AMBC and Maureen Muller of Port Shepstone CC.
Margate’s fours team, comprising Ellen Cawker, Jessica Henderson, Barbara Brook and Georgie McKecknie, didn’t do too badly either, reaching the quarter-finals.
Maureen Muller, although not playing under KBA colours in the fours, won the gold medal.
Kingfisher BA congratulates them all on a well-played tournament.
BANNERS REST
THE Peg & Punter Mixed Trips last Wednesday was won by Dave Banks, Aubrey Hood and Pam Gilson, with runners-up Joe Ashworth, Leoni Booth and Anne Wells.
Second session went to Chris Forward, Brian and Pam Cole-Cook and the 50/50 board to Hannes du Plessis.
The Kinsey Mixed Fours will be played at Port Edward this Friday May 29 and the Banners Rest Mixed Pairs on Friday, June 5.
HIBBERDENE
THE nominated mixed trips played last Friday was won by the Hoyer family – Bruce, John and Judy.
Second prize was won by Norman and Judy Aiston and Louise Shone. Session prize went to Danie and Annetjie Human and Cheryl Knight. Thanks to Harcourts Scott Bay Real Estates and Chris Shone for their generous sponsorship.
The mixed fours is nearing the end so good bowls is expected over the next few weeks.
Members wish Arthur Seager and Louise Shone good bowling this weekend.
The next competition is the 2-4-2, sponsored by life member Mike Hoyer, this Friday, May 29 at 1.30pm.
MARGATE BC
WELL done to Ellen Cawker who was runner-up in the 2015 National Senior Singles held in Port Elizabeth last week – a fantastic performance.
Congratulations must also go to Jessica Henderson, Ellen Cawker, Barbara Brook and Georgie McKechnie for reaching the quarter-finals in the fours in the same tournament.
The winners in last Thursday’s Martin Electronics Tabs competition were Yvonne James, Garth Philpott, Ann Waugh and Johnny Louch.
Runners-up were Herman Scheinberg, Vicky de Beer, John Wevell and Jean Bouverie. The lucky draw was won by Sharon Scheinberg, Rennie Geyer and Franci Philpott.
Friday afternoon’s Uvongo Spar Open 2-4-2 winners were Andrea Blignaut and Brian Smalberger.
The runners-up were Annette Payne and John Richards. The first session was won by Herman and Sharon Scheinberg and the second session went to Trevor Heywood and Phillippe Audibert.

MUNSTER
CONGRATULATIONS to Ivan van den Bergh who is the 2015 novice champion.
This Friday, May 29 sees the annual Kinsey Mixed Fours take place, where Munster will be battling against Port Edward and Banners Rest to retain the trophy.
Competitions will be held at Port Edward BC, starting at 9am.
Regular tabs in Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays are at 1.30pm.
PORT EDWARD
BIGGEST congratulations of the week go to Tommy Snyman, a senior bowler and well known umpire who, after recently having his left leg amputated below the knee, took part in tabs-in last Saturday afternoon and acquitted himself really well in a wheelchair.
Winners of Tuesday’s 7th Heaven Mixed Trips were Andreas van der Linde, John Keppler and Amy Korne. Runners-up were Hedley Meek, David Lewis and Pat Ruperto, while second session prize went to Barry Payn, Trevor Smith and Phillipa Rowney.
Congratulations to Cliff Moakes and Val Smith for winning the DVD Plus Mixed Pairs last Friday from Barry Payn and Phillipa Rowney. Second session went to Andreas van der Linde and Anne Wells.
Tomorrow sees Port Edward host the Kinsey Trophy, a keenly contested triangular competition between Port Edward, Munster and Banners Rest.
Tabs in on Saturday and Wednesday at 1.30pm.
PORT SHEPSTONE
MULTICROP sponsored the Business Challenge last Friday. Curnow Insurance’s Mervyn Curnow, Rob Harley and Rick Thompson were the winners.
Runners-up were Trapezium Design’s Mark and Sharon Bischoff playing with Bernie Sinclair.

RIVERSIDE

COSMOS Gumede won the men’s club singles championship and Marilyn Sinclair the women’s section.
The plate was won by Peter Anderson. The pairs champs was won by Tom Semple and Richard Cochman.
Winners of the South Coast Herald Mixed 2-4-2 were Ann Barkway and Johan McLeod with Jane Massam and Richard Cochman as runners-up. Session prize went to Tom Semple and Sandy Shepherd.
The Geochem Mixed Trips were won by Geoff Kelleher, Jane Massam and Cosmos Gumede on a count out from Sheugnet Pretorius, Bob Macfarlane and Hennie Greyling.
The Dr D’Arcy Men’s Trips will be played today (Thursday, May 25).

ASTRID Jackson and Nellie Davies won the G & K Women’s 2-4-2 played last week from runners-up Sandy Penny and Mada Lindeque.
Sharolyn Dacey and Charmaine van Deventer took the session prize.
Due to the Hibiscus Week, the next event is the Harbour View SuperSpar (in house) Mixed 2-4-2 on Friday, June 12.
VILLAGE

Sessions went to Oscar Pienaar and Dave Aitken and to Ivan Hosken and Dave Garland. Gary Hess won the 50/50.
