President Lynne wishes novices well

UNFORTUNATELY, president Lynne Bamber won’t be here for the Novice Singles due to be played next week but has sent a message to all competitors:
“Well done for grasping the nettle for what, hopefully, is the first of many KBA competitions that you will enter. I am sure you will find the experience of great benefit in the coming years of your bowling careers. Relax and enjoy the fellowship of your fellow beginners.”

Women’s Saturday league results, after a bit of a shaky start to the inaugural Two Bowl Trips format, are as follows:
Winners’ section – 1 Margate (Yellow Section) with 10 +29; 2 Margate (Blue Section) with 9 +4; 3 Port Edward with 7 -13; 4 The Bell with 4 -20.
Runners-up section – 1 Port Shepstone with 10 +29; 2 Scottburgh with 9 +13; AMBC with 8 -10; 3 Riverside with 3 -32.

THE SuperSpar Port Edward Tri-Club Mixed Trips played last week resulted in a win for Penny Hood, Trevor Smith and Sariena Ziervögel.
Placed second were Dice Graaff, Mariens Zietsman and Francine van der Merwe.
In third were Chris Forward, Val Smith and Mike Gower.
Sportsman prize went to team Cliff Moakes, Mary Phelps and John Meyer, while the raffle went to Ron Camps.
Next sponsored competition is the Indulgence Women’s Pairs on Wednesday, June 24.
Carpet bowls will take place at the Breezeway on Friday, June 26 after 6pm.
Birthday wishes go to Colin Hilligan on June 20 and Joe Ashworth on June 24.

THE nominated mixed trips played last Friday afternoon were won by Eddie Milne, Bruce Hoyer and Joey Venter.
Norman and Judy Aiston with Cheryl Knight came second. Session prize was won by Apie Putter, Ann Matthysen and Martin Rautenbach.

The next competition is Re/Max Nominated Mixed Trips this Friday afternoon at 1.30pm.
There will not be social bowls on Saturday afternoon as the club is hosting the KBA men’s and women’s pairs.
This is being played on Saturday, Sunday and Monday is the finals. All welcome to come and watch.
The two men’s league teams won the KBA 2nd League last Saturday. Well done all of you.

THE women’s league teams are to be congratulated on taking the two top spots this year.
Winners were Ellen Cawker, Pam Cole-Cook, Vi Pells, Jessica Henderson, Sandy Jeffrey and Georgie McKechnie.
Runners-up were Barbara Brook, Betty Bolton, Yvonne Bausek, Franci Philpott, Ann Waugh and Trish Bell.
Congratulations go to the men’s league teams which also took the runners-up place.
Bingo will be on the evening of July 7.
The next sponsored tournament will be the Manaba Kwikspar women’s 2-4-2 this Friday morning.

PORT EDWARD
WELL done to Trevor Smith and Sarina Ziervogel of Port Edward, who were skipped by Penny Hood of Munster, on scooping first prize in a very competitive and enjoyable SuperSpar Tri-Club competition last week.
A special thanks to Marianne van Buuren who took it upon herself to make the eats and arrange scorecards for all three days at the Port Edward legs of the competition.
A Father’s Day bring and braai will be held at the club this Saturday after tabs followed by a darts challenge where bets can be placed on two teams of three men players managed by two women.
The club has seven players going to the KBA Novices on June 26 and thus requires at least three markers, one at Southport and two at Margate for Friday 26.

WINNERS of the Hopdens Kwikspar were Ann Bailey, Brian Muir, Butch Bruce and John Gibson.
Runners-up were Madge Nicolson, Brian Cross and Jannie van der Nest.
First session went to Heather Flyng, Joy Glathaar and Malcolm Taylor.
Chummy Smith, Tony Bailey and Fred Deakin were awarded second session.
The next sponsored competition is the Fruit and Veg Mixed 2-4-2 on Friday, June 26.
Pony Night will be held tomorrow, Friday, June 19, starting with twilight bowls at 3.30pm, followed by a special budget meeting from 5pm.
All members are asked to attend. Tabs in Tuesday,Thursday and Saturday afternoons at 1.15pm.

COFFEE on the Square sponsored the women’s open trips last Wednesday which was won by Rene Jover, Bonny Hills and Monika Zunker.
Runners-up were Trixie Smith, Vicky de Beer and Annette Coomer. 50/50 went Esme Strauss.
Fazenda 2-4-2 will be brought forward to this Friday, as there is a KBA pairs competition at the club on June 26, therefore no social bowls that day.

THE Harbour View SuperSpar Women’s Trips played last week were won by Barbara Sates, Marie Piek and Nellie Davis with Sheenagh Dempster, Dalene van den Berg and Winnie Hess as runners-up.
Session prize went to Barbara Fernihough, Susan Fourie and Jutta van Doornick.
The South Coast Herald Mixed 2-4-2 played last Thursday was won by Peet van Rooyen and Susan Fourie with Tommy Leek and Martie Human as runners-up. Session prize went to Bob Moroney and Val Bedecker.
The in-house 2-bowl trips league will be played this Friday and will be followed by a meal.

Dumisani Madlala and Karen Delaney took second session. Geoff Kelleher, with Cynthia Korb and Mike Findlay, won the Schooners Restaurant 3-2-1 scoring mixed trips from second placed Daphne Hounsell with Spike Maritz and Dumisani Madlala.
The next event is the 3rd Avenue Mixed Fours this Friday, followed by the G&K Women’s 2-4-2 on June 27.

WINNERS of the Hibiscus Retirement Villages Men’s Trips were Reg Sanders, Fred van Niekerk and Corrie Malan on a count out from Rennie Geyer, Eric Chamier and Alan Dinning on a drawn card from Dereck Schorn, Hugh Holland and Manny Piquito.
Sessions went to Ivan Hosken, Dave Garland and Clive Bignell and to Patrick Kirkbright, Hein Bester and Wynand Bezuidenhout. Martiens Olivier won the 50/50.
The winners of Hibiscus Insurance Brokers’ Mixed Trips were Betty Bolton, Ali Mitchell and Doug Kent followed by Ivan and Hazel Hosken and Clive Bignell. Sessions went to Don Fowler, Chris Haslam and Hazel Barton and to Barry Christie, Norman Isherwood and Aileen Ward. Alan Tyers took the 50/50.
The next sponsored competition at the club is the Execudec Mixed 2-4-2 on Tuesday, June 23.
The Hyundai Drawn Mixed Trips will be this Saturday. Please arrange to get a marker and play your games for the club’s singles championships.
