Tight finishes at pairs finals
A NAIL-BITING finish to the men’s pairs saw Riverside’s Dave Barber and Graham Dunlop beating Hibberdene’s Bez Bezuidenhout and Bruce Hoyer on the last end by just one shot.
A fantastic game of bowls and enjoyed by the spectators. Third place went to Jeremy Davey and Senzo Radebe of Sezela and fourth to Phil Myburgh and Murray Ross of Port Shepstone.
The Bell took both top honours in the women’s pairs with Daphne Sapsford and Mada Lindeque the winners and Michelle Vermeulen and Ronel Bourman runners-up.
In third place were Lynn James and Hilary Holmes from Scottburgh with Ann Simpson and Annatjie Kidd from AMBC in fourth place.
Please support the Novice Singles Championships this weekend. The play-offs, semis and finals will be at Margate on Saturday and Sunday.

BANNERS REST
WINNERS of the Peg & Punter Mixed Trips played last Wednesday were Chris Forward with Brian and Pam Cole-Cook.
Runners-up were Dave Banks, Aubrey and Penny Hood, and second session went to Joe Ashworth, Leoni Booth and Dice Graaff. The 50/50 board winner was Cliff Moakes.
Next sponsored competitions are the GP Security Mixed Pairs on Friday, July 3, and the Tops Port Edward Men’s Pairs on Sunday, July 5.

HIBBERDENE
JAN and Joey Venter, with Callie Quinn were the winners of the Nominated Mixed Trips played last Friday.
In second place were Bez and Bubbles Bezuidenhout, with Hana Svoboda. Session prize went to Jan and Helene Oosthuizen, with Hennie van Jaarsveld.

The next competition is the Nominated Mixed Trips this Friday afternoon, sponsored by Harcourts Scottbay.
The club hosted the KBA Women’s Pairs last weekend. Three games of 15 ends were played last Saturday and then four games of 21 ends on Sunday.
MARGATE BC
DORA Vosloo and Helen Proctor won the Manaba Kwikspar Women’s 2-4-2 last Friday, from runners-up Sheena Absalom and Vicki de Beer.
Session went to Sharon Scheinberg and Liza Edwards. The next bingo evening will be held on Monday, July 7.
The next sponsored tournament will be the Mooirivier Brokers’ Open 2-4-2 this Friday, June 26.
The Martin Electronics Mixed Trips tabs-in will be held today, June 25.

THE Hopden’s Manaba Spar Women’s Trips was won by Heather Roberts, Mal Sheppard and Lorraine Wijtman.
Runners-up were Kobie Stander, Ina Malan and Val Erasmus.
The session prize went to Sheena Absalom, Vicki de Beer and Yvonne Bausek. The raffle was won by Vicki de Beer.
The Engel & Volker Property Shop Men’s Fours competition was won by Barry Delvin, Rassie Erasmus, Jimmy Holtshausen and Taubie Jonker.
Next were Barrie Christie, John Sutton, Ivan Hosken and Norman Isherwood, followed by Denzil Massyn, Alan Tyers, Gary Hess and Chris Abram.
The leaderboard is now: Barry Delvin 91 pts, Barry Christie 89 pts, Ken Tonge 79 pts, Denzil Massyn 74 pts, Martiens Olivier 73 pts and Graham Gold, 66 pts.
MUNSTER
THE winners of the men’s pairs, sponsored by Dolphin Pub & Grill, were Lew Angus and David Lindley, with runners-up Jokkie van Buuren and Mike Gower.
Session went to Rob Lyle and Mike Carter, who also got a ‘Perfect Eight’.

PORT SHEPSTONE
WELL done to Gill Thiele on winning the club singles championship. Good luck to her and Eddie Fann who will represent the club at the Champion of Champions to be held later this year.
An in house pairs competition was held last Sunday and the winners were Julia Peacock playing with Phil Myburgh. The runners-up were Mark Bischoff partnered by Graham Wood, followed by Rick Thompson and Caroline Harris.
Round six of the Business Challenge was played last Friday afternoon and sponsored by the South Coast Herald.
The winning team for the afternoon was PHG Stoppel, comprising Peter Stoppel, Eddie Fann and Caroline Harris.
Runners-up were the Pro Shop team made up of Trevor Green, Justin Hinchliff and Jesse Verster. Bevis Fairbrother presented the prizes for the Herald.
RIVERSIDE
THE next sponsored competition is the Fruit and Veg Mixed 2-4-2 to be played tomorrow (Friday, June 26).
The Cupboard Value sponsored open trips will be held on Wednesday, July 1.
Ray Visser and Sydney Ackerman are both feeling much better. Members wish them a speedy recovery.

SOUTHBROOM
WELL played to John Sutton, Graham Fisher and Sean Larkins who won the Tiago’s men’s trips last Tuesday.
Runners-up were Barry Christie, Hein Bester and Bill Read. First session went to Martiens Olivier, Bruce Coldswell and Bill Eccles. Second session to Kevin Tod, Alfred Shusha and Trebla Lansdell.
Kevin Tod and Viv Date will enjoy delicious meals at Fazenda Restaurante at Mac Banana as they won the 2-4-2 last Friday.
As always it was great to see others join the regulars for the successful bowls and braai last Sunday. Thanks to those who brought salads.
The next one will take place on Sunday, July 26.
SOUTHPORT
GOOD luck to the members playing in the novices champs this weekend.
The Dr D’Arcy Men’s Trips will be played today (Thursday, June 25) and the Sponsored Mixed Trips this Sunday, June 28.
The Fruit & Veg In-house Pairs will be played on Tuesday, June 30.
THE BELL
CONGRATULATIONS to the players who won the KBA Men’s First League, and to the players who were runners-up in the second league.
The Fruit & Veg 2-4-2 was won by Nico and Sandy van Niekerk. Second were Adele Reader and Kevin Mullen. Hew Hodgson and Mada Lindeque came third and the session prize went to Desiree and Barry Krause.
The Bell Mixed Trips was won by Gary le Brasse, Sandy Penny and Willie Knott. In second place were Duncan Randall, with Desiree and Barry Krause. Session prize went to Geoff Barbour, Angela Moorhouse and Tina Barbour.
The Chicken and Egg competition last Sunday was well supported.
Social bowls is played on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons and Sunday mornings. There will be a braai following bowls this Sunday.
TWENI
CHRIS Jacobs, Jaques Snyman, Sheenagh Dempster and Ruth Findlay won the recent 3rd Avenue Mixed Fours.
Runners-up were Eric Grierson, Derick and Jean Celliers, and Isabel Prenger.
The next event is the G&K Women’s 2-4-2 today (Thursday, June 25).
VILLAGE
WINNERS of the Martin Electronics Men’s 2-4-2 were Alan Tyers and Denzil Massyn, followed by Bill Parfitt and Fred van Niekerk.
Sessions went to Tony Simmonds and Bill Reed and to Barry Christie and Norman Isherwood. Ivan Hosken won the 50/50.
The next sponsored competitions at the club are the Hopdens Kwikspar Women’s 2-4-2 on Monday, June 29; Wingnuts Mixed 2-4-2 on Wednesday, July 1, with Hibiscus Insurance Brokers’ Mixed Trips on Thursday, July 9.
Winners of the Hyundai Drawn Mixed Trips were Pat Goddard, Bill Reed and Charlotte van Niekerk, followed by Rosemary Esterhuysen, Derrick Shell and Kathy Hall, and then by Bill Latham, Johan van Niekerk and Rosalie Bloom.
The lists are out for the ‘Durban July’ raffle. Sincere condolences to Mike Ryan on the death of Maria.
The RAC draw and bring and braai will be next Friday, July 3, with bingo on July 10.
