Local karate at its best
The tournament encourages the youth to learn and practise the discipline of the martial art of karate.
THE fourth annual Ugu Karate Regional Development Tournament was held at the Port Shepstone Secondary School hall last Saturday.
Only those affiliated to Karate South Africa, Karate KwaZulu-Natal and the Ugu region were eligible to compete.
The benefit of belonging and paying affiliations is that karateka may enter at provincial level and then be eligible to be selected to national level. These associations are the only recongnised karate organisations able to award provincial colours in South Africa.
This karate tournament encourages the youth of the South Coast, from Port Edward to Scottburgh, to learn and practise the discipline of the martial art of karate.
Five South Coast karate clubs from Scottburgh, Port Shepstone, Uvongo and Margate took part. About 120 individual entries were spread over age groups from six to 18 years and the veterans’ division.
The organisers thanked the sponsors, parents, and competitors for ensuring the continued success of these tournaments.
