THE BELL

THE AGM will be held on Saturday, August 15, at 2pm, followed by prize-giving. Nominations for the new committee are on the board and members must canvas suitable members.

Entry forms for the Springs Old Boys’ weekend on August 8 and 9 are on the board. Add names to play on either or both days. The next club sponsored competition is the Captain’s Anchor mixed fours tomorrow (10th) with Sandy and Stan Penny as conveners. Good bowling to all playing in the KBA trips this weekend.

MCC

THE Hair Shoppe women’s fours was played at MBC – thanks to the MBC committee. This month’s winners were Jill Thiele, Jenny Rawlins, Sharon Bischoff and Anne Payne with a score of 24+11. Runners-up on 23+13 were Michelle Vermeulen, Susan Fourie, Sheena Dempster and Sandy van Niekerk. The next women’s fours is on August 7.

The Hibiscus Retirement Village men’s fours at MBC was won by Steve Rennie, Glen Allen and John Keppler with a score of 4+12. Alan Tyers, Brian Hughes and Norman Isherwood were runners-up with a score of 4+5.

Session went to Barry Christie, Ivan Hosken and Derrick Schell and Martiens Olivier took 50/50. The next men’s trips is on August 4. All MCC competitions will be played at MBC over the next two months, however normal tabs will continue at MCC.

The club gathered last Saturday to say farewell to Chris and Diane Abram and Bruce and Margaret Coldwells. The club will sorely miss their kindness, generosity and commitment to the ‘Country Club family’.

SOUTHPORT

BOB Macfarlane and Sandy Shepherd won the in-house Fruit & Veg pairs with Johan McLeod and Hennie Greyling coming second. Third place went to Bob Moroney and Val Bedecker.

The South Coast Herald mixed 2-4-2 will be next Thursday (16th). Members are reminded that the AGM will be held next Saturday (18th).

RIVERSIDE

MADGE Nicolson and Adriana Peens won the women’s drawn pairs. Chummy Smith and Ron Weddell have gone through to the men’s singles final.

The KBA men’s and women’s trips will be played this weekend. The next sponsored competition is the Fruit & Veg mixed 2-4-2 on July 31. Tabs in take place on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday afternoons at 1.15pm.

Gordon Ogilvie and Sydney Ackermann are wished a speedy recovery. The club sincerely thanks Gloria Xaba for 30 years of loyal service and wishes her a happy retirement. Gloria will be missed.

PORT EDWARD

WINNERS of the Indulgence Beauty Salon mixed trips last Tuesday were Dave Hume, Vi Pels and Ally Weir, with Jokkie van Buuren, Anne Wells and Sarina Ziervogel as runners-up. Joe Ashworth, Peter Ziervogel and Ann McAlister won second session. The women’s nominated pairs championship was won by Marianne van Buuren and Mary Warner from Yvonne Fillis and Nova Allen last Thursday.

A team of 28 players from Amanzimtoti narrowly defeated a Port Edward team which included several women last weekend to regain the trophy (which PEBC won from them last year). The individual winning team comprised Barry Payn, Trevor Smith, Gawie Bosman and Derek Wicks from Port Edward.

There will be no social bowls on Saturday (11th) (PEBC is one of the clubs hosting the KBA women’s tournament). Tabs-in will continue next Wednesday and Saturday. Visitors are welcome.

UMTENTWENI

DENNIS Graham and Mike Findlay won the South Coast Herald men’s trips on June 16 (omitted from the weekly report) from second-placed Bez Bezuidenhout and Bruce Hoyer; Tom Semple and Derick Celliers took session.

Sharolyn Dacey and Tina Barbour won the G & K women’s 2-4-2 from runners-up Mada Lindeque and Sandy Penny and session went to Barbara Fernihough and Susan Fourie.

John and Anne Payn won the Harbour View SuperSpar mixed pairs from second placed Eric Grierson and Isabel Prenger. Daphne Hounsell and Peter Marsh took session. The next event is the Schooner’s Restaurant mixed trips on Saturday (11th) followed by the JCee Sounds mixed trips on Monday (13th).

BANNERS REST

JANET Venter and Ally Weir took first place at the Indulgence mixed pairs played last Friday and Steve and Jennie Rennie were runners-up. Second session went to Cliff Moakes and Val Smith and 50/50 to Janet Venter.

The Port Edward Tops men’s pairs last Sunday was won by Rod Phelps and George Pithie, runners-up were Brian Camps and Ally Weir and Ron Camps and Glen Allen took second session. 50/50 went to new member David Pratten. The next sponsored competition is the Peg and Punter mixed trips next Wednesday, July 15.

ALAN and Alison Dinning won the Wingnuts mixed 2-4-2, followed by Hermann and Sharon Scheinberg. Sessions went to Ali Mitchell, Shirley Barlow, Roy Robertson and Dawn Oehley. Anne Riley took 50/50.

The Durban July raffle was won by Craig Ingle, Doris Ndovela, Ron Meekings and Ron Canning. Bingo is tomorrow (10th) and Dave’s breakfast will be on Sunday (12th). Names are required for catering purposes. All are welcome.

WINNERS of the Margate Panelbeaters men’s 2-4-2 played last Friday were Ian Hutton and Alan Dinning on 4+12, Ernie Southwood and Derek McKechnie were runners-up on 4+7 and session went to Bill Brown and Rennie Geyer on 2+3. Good bowling to all playing the KBA trips this weekend.

The quiz evening is next Wednesday evening (15th). Bring along family and friends for a fun evening with prizes galore and a fish and chips supper. The next sponsored tournaments will be the Uvongo Spar open 2-4-2 tomorrow (10th) and the Manaba KwikSpar women’s 2-4-2 next Friday (17th). LAST Thursday’s women’s fours sponsored by the South Coast Herald was won by Daphne Sapsford’s team comprising Marie Coetzer, Barbara Gradwell and Mada Lindeque.

Second place was a draw between two teams on identical scores and the winners were Cyndy McMurtry with Daphne Hounsell, Efrieda Goosen and Maria Hardy Theobald.

Winners of the Harbour View SuperSpar mixed trips were Louw Vermeulen’s team comprising Michelle Vermeulen and Charmaine van Deventer. Runners-up were Peet van Rooyen, Susan Fourie and Kevin Mullen. Session went to Roy Anderson, Trevor Green and Kevin Lancaster.

AFTER a blistering first 10 ends, Kevin Todd, Dave Southby, Janet Larkins and Cas Benade won the Mariner’s Restaurant open mixed fours. Runners-up were Malcolm Milne, Hans Wijtman, Viv Date and Monika Zunker.

First session went to Heather Roberts, Mal Sheppard, Sean Larkins and Wynand Bezuidenhout and second session to Mike Gamble, Hilda Todd, Jimmy Ronald and Mariette du Preez. Corrie van Zyl took 50/50. TOMMIE and Louise Dry won the Indulgence mixed pairs, runners-up were David Lindley and Joey Anderson and Fanie and Sera Koekemoer took second session.

HIBBERDENE

THE nominated mixed trips last Tuesday afternoon was won by Albert Munnik, with Maureen and Tabie Jonker. Second place went to Jan and Helene Oosthuizen, with Chris Snyman. Session was awarded to Bez and Bubbles Bezuidenhout and Annatjie Human. A big thank you to the Hibberdene Hotel for the sponsorship.

Last Saturday, teams from Hibberdene played at Sezela in the annual Warwick sponsored day. The team skipped by Albert Munnik and Maureen and Tabie Jonker came third overall.

The next competition is tomorrow afternoon (10th) at 1.30pm, sponsored by Hibberdene Pharmacy. Deepest condolences to Cheryl Knight on the death of her husband Greg, who has not been well for a while.
