Wayne’s World: Run fat boy, run

Start your Comrades training now.

IT’S that time of the year when it is the most difficult to get out of be early in the morning to go for a run. Trust me, I speak from a bucket load of experience.

So, you ask yourself: Why must I get out of my warm and comfy bed to face the dark, cold outdoors?

Well, if you are anything like me it’s because you have loudly announced to everyone that you are definitely going to run Comrades 2016.

After having taken a two year ‘break’ from running, I feeling like a total novice, on top of which I have become quite round and unfit.

In fact, I feel as though I have a new best friend in the form of a 10kg pocket of potatoes that has taken up residence around my waist.

So, my challenge to old and new runners is to join me at the South Coast Striders’ time trial every Wednesday evening at 5.30pm – at the Uvongo pier in Lilliecrona Road.

We run 4km and 8km, you meet new people, form running groups with people who run the same pace as you and the Comrades’ journey gains momentum.

Just a reminder that the 10km club championship will take place from the Uvongo pier on Sunday, August 2 at 7am .

Non-members also welcome. More information to follow.
