THIS past week we once again saw some great catches on our points with a number of decent blacktip kingies and garrick taken out by anglers willing to put in the time with live baits and artificial lures.
Marco Di Sante was rewarded with not one, but two, nice size blacktip kingies in Uvongo, with one eating his no-name branded lure on Friday, the next eating his live shad on Saturday. Both fish were around the 8kg mark.
Margate Pier and Orange Rocks have also produced some leeries and kingies on live baits, with a few of the beaches rewarding anglers as well on light tackle.
Shad have pretty much been all over again, with mixed sizes each day.
This time of year they should be a lot bigger in size, however many undersize have been caught – and kept, unfortunately.
They have definitely been throwing us a ‘curve ball’, eating on days we don’t expect and vice versa – eating on the westerly and not on the easterly as we have all been accustomed too.
Bronze bream seem to be missing so far, with only the odd one being caught. These fish will definitely start biting soon with the much sought after brusher following.
All our local shad ‘hot spots’ are in an absolute mess after the recent holiday season, with plastic bags, line and empty 1kg boxes of sards all over, which is very disheartening to all our locals.
With the spring tides last weekend all this will end up in our ocean, and will definitely cause harm to the marine life. Congrats to those who have given up their fishing time to help clean up.
Keep your eyes on the sea, with the big tides expected. Places like Uvongo Pier can be extremely dangerous being in the damaged state that it is.
Someone is going to get hurt if it is not fixed soon.
