Wayne’s World: Every stride counts

Load shedding did not deter the runners.

I WAS out on a ‘short’ 5km run on Sunday morning with a couple of friends when I realised how much I had missed the running scene.

Sure I battled, 5km is far when you haven’t been training, but when the hills became too steep we just walked.

It’s a funny thing, even though Neville Storbeck is a seasoned runner he had nothing to prove and simply walked with Taryn Olivier and I, and gave us encouragement in saying that in a few weeks running would become easier.

I felt a wonderful sense of achievement on completing that 5km and urge all of you to join me in my quest for fitness and a healthier lifestyle.

Join me at the South Coast Striders’ time trial for a 4km or 8km run every Wednesday evening at 5.30pm on Lilliecrona Boulevard in Uvongo.

During last week’s time trial we experienced load shedding and boy was it dark, but our friends from the SAPS came to our rescue and drove up and down with the runners to ensure our safety.

Thank you to our local heroes.

And remember every stride counts.
