Jason Webb races to first position

TECHNICALITIES reared their ugly head at this year’s sixth instalment of the SupaDrift Series at Dezzi Raceway last Saturday. With 29 entrants taking to the track, visitors were sure to see some excellent driving, Sadly, mechanical failure and driver error saw only 17 drivers managing to post qualifying scores. Jason Webb took first place, Otto Graven second, Wade van Zummeren third and Richat Khan was the driver of the day.

Paolo Gouveia took a win over Shane Gutzeit by default after Shane hit the drain at the top section of the track obliterating his side shaft and diff. When the top eight drivers arrived, so did the technicalities. Multiple front clipping point hits, straight lines, off track rulings and contact saw a number of upsets. In the end, though, the driver with the best tandem score won.

The final round saw the epic battle between mentor and student: Otto Graven versus Jason Webb. First run saw Jason leading the tandem and Otto following. The judges scored the run 6-4 to Jason. The second run saw Otto leading with Jason following.

This was a run to be remembered. Otto took the second clipping point out with his front bumper and dropped two wheels in the dirt on the last corner scoring a zero, Jason found himself in a very unlucky situation as his car broke down in that run also scoring him a zero, leaving the score at 6-4 on the first run, giving Jason the win for the day and pushing him to the top of the overall leaderboard.
