Women bowlers will be notified of selection soon
WELL done to Pam Cole-Cook and Vi Pells, and Louw Vermeulen and Keith Harcombe for doing so well in their sections in the National SpecSavers Pro 10 tournament held in Johannesburg recently.
The women’s selection process is now complete and clubs will be receiving notification this week of their players who have been selected for the district squads.
The selectors congratulate those who have made it through and extend their thanks to those who didn’t quite make the cut.
The 2015 Masters will take place at Margate BC on October 3 and 4.
KBA’s annual general meeting is also at Margate BC, on October 5 at 9.30am.
THE BELL
WINNERS of the 2-4-2 sponsored by Fruit and Veg City were Arthur and Miriam Seager. Runners-up were Sharolyn Dacey and Steve O’Moore.
Second session winners were Louw Vermeulen and Charmaine van Deventer.
Winners of the chicken and egg tabs in competition, sponsored by Hew and Gail Hodgson, were Mike Armour, Daphne Hounsel and Barry Krause.
Runners-up were Stan Penny, Willy Knott and Lee Armour.
Congratulations to Louw Vermeulen, Charmaine van Deventer, and Maureen and Wayne Muller, who came second in the Doug Watson tournament played at Margate.
If you are available for selection in the sevens and Saturday leagues please put your names on the entry forms which are on the board.
Next sponsored competition is the mixed trips to be played this Friday. Convener is Margaret Douglass.

CONGRATULATIONS to all those involved in making the Doug Watson Tournament a huge success and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.
Winners of the Manaba Kwikspar women’s 2-4-2 played last Friday were Dora Vosloo and Helen Proctor from Barbara Brook and Sandy Ferguson.
Next sponsored competition will be the Uvongo Spar open 2-4-2 this Friday afternoon. Free boerewors rolls afterwards.
Sunday morning bowlers are having a ‘bring and braai’ on September 27. Bring your own meat and a salad to share. Tabs in by 8.30am.
Karen Robertson is wished a speedy recovery after her recent back operation. Leza Harris is also back in hospital and wished well.

MARGATE CC
IN the Engel & Volker Property Shop men’s fours competition Barry Christie’s team won gold, followed by Barry Delvin’s team.
Extending their lead on the leaderboard is Barry Delvin’s team with a total points of 147.
They will play Barry Christie’s team, in second place, on Friday, October 16.
In third place is Ken Tonge’s team on 115 points and they will play Denzil Massyn’s team.
There will only be one more men’s fours event for this year after this and that will be on November 20.
Congratulations to Kobie Stander, Dora Vosloo and Helen Proctor for being invited to the Masters on Saturday, October 3.
PORT SHEPSTONE
FRIDAY saw the playing of the monthly business challenge. Conditions were not the best, being cold and very overcast.
Thanks to Mike Quinn of Quinn’s Coconut Oil, who provided the liquid refreshments and prizes.
Winners were Admiral’s View team consisting of Alan, Mary and Jonathan Jacobson and Ken Morris.
Runners-up were Johnny’s Tree Felling being Johnny Bloch, Glen Douglass, Kathy Simpson and Johnny Guy.
RIVERSIDE
A MOST enjoyable Pony Night was held last week. The draw was won by Jenny Bruce.
A mixed 2-4-2 will take place this Friday.

THE annual prize-giving will take place on Saturday, October 3 at 4pm. A light meal will be provided by the club.
Friday evening’s get-together was well supported and members will gather together this Friday at 4pm. A plate of snacks will be appreciated.
Barry Payn, Greg Fifield, Mike Gower and Rob Lyle will be off to Kokstad for a trip this Saturday.
VILLAGE
RENOVATIONS are going ahead on the clubhouse and the bowling greens are starting to look good thanks to the hard work put in by the greens committee and their helpers, with special thanks for the most welcome rains. Don’t forget the AGM next Wednesday, September 30 at 3pm.
It will be held in the Ronnie Baker Hall. Watch notice boards around the Village for any updates on the club.
If you are able to play in the sevens league at the beginning of November followed by the Saturday league – please give your names to Alan or Hazel.
BANNERS REST
ENTRY forms for the KBA Saturday men’s first and second league, the men’s fours league, and the women’s two bowl trips league are posted on the notice board, all with a closing date of October 12.
A reminder that the closing date for the KBA sevens league is October 5.
Also on the notice board is the nomination form for next season’s bowling club committee, with the AGM taking place on October 19 at 10am in the Breezeway.
SOUTHPORT
THE weather joined in and played the game on Saturday morning, as the rain cleared up in time for the long awaited ‘bowls cricket’ return match between Southport and Hibberdene to be played. Notwithstanding an overwhelming victory by Southport, the Hibberdene hosts declared that they had enjoyed the morning immensely and had had much fun.
The braai after the game allowed interclub fellowship between members to cement friendships.
Greens opened last Monday with the Fruit & Veg sponsored in-house 2-4-2. Tabs in resumed as from Wednesday.
This afternoon will see the Dr D’Arcy sponsored men’s trips at 1.30pm. Tabs in continues from Saturday at the summer time of 1.45pm.
SOUTHBROOM
WELL done to the doughty players who contended with wind and rain last week to win the Tiago’s men’s trips, namely Graham Fisher, Cas Benade and Nico Mantoan.
Runners-up were Dieter Scholz, John Richards and Ian Hutton.
First session went to Hans Wijtman, David James and Alfred Shusha, with the second session going to Bill Brown, Barry Herbert and Mike Barry. 50/50 to Alan Tyers.
Coffee on the Square women’s trips was won by Mal Sheppard, Norma Ronald and Lorraine Wijtman. Runners-up were Val Kirkbright, Nora Hill and Hazel Burton.
First session winners were Ina Malan, Bonny Hills and Julia Moorley. Second session went to Yvonne James, Sharon Scheinberg and Alison Dinning. 50/50 to Mariette du Preez.

THE South Coast Herald men’s pairs played on September 14 was won by Peet van Rooyen and Steve O’Moore.
Runners-up were Renier van Tonder and Donny Rossouw with session going to Keith Mills and Mike King.
Winners of the rain interrupted 3rd Avenue restaurant mixed fours were Peet van Rooyen, Susan Fourie, Marie Pick and George Pick with second session prize going to Ty and Doreen Ferguson with John and Anne Payne.
The next competition will be the Wimpy women’s pairs today (Thursday).
