Showdown time: ‘The Fireman’ vs ‘Die Grondvoel’

The challenge also doubles up as the South Coast Striders' 15km walking championships.

IT’S crunch time for our two challengers, Trevor ‘The Fireman’ Burger and Freek ‘Die Grondvoel’ Stander.

Finally, the bickering and trash talking can be laid to rest as they face each other this Sunday, October 4 in a 15km run.

I personally wonder how much time they have actually spent on training.

Their challenge also doubles up as the South Coast Striders’ 15km walking championships.

The race starts at the Wimpy on Margate beachfront at 6am and winds along the beachfront towards Pistols Saloon and back again.

Walkers are requested to please wear full club kit and entry is free of charge.

Don’t forget to take a raffle ticket in support of your favourite challenger. R10 per ticket to stand a chance to win one of three great prizes.

On the move: Nicolette Schlehmeyer (left), Rachel Siyangapi and Caitlyn Schlehmeyer placed twelfth, fourteenth and fourth at the provincial district' cross-country champs recently. The trio were the top three U15 runners in the Ugu district. The girls won the team prize and Caitlyn was selected for the KwaZulu-Natal team to take part in the national champs in East London this Saturday.

Another amazing race, and Comrades qualifier, coming up and not to be missed is the Goss and Balfe in Amanzimtoti on October 18.

Entries for this race close on October 10 and no late entries will be accepted.

The Goss and Balfe is a 21km or 42km race. Athletes gather at the Toti train station at 5am to board the free train to the start of the race.

If you are doing the 21km you will be dropped off at the Ilfracombe station and the fitter runners attempting the 42km will be dropped off at Hutchinson Park Station.

Remember to collect your race number by 4.30am on the race day so you have enough time to get to the station.

It is a 20 minute walk from the civic centre to the train station.

Runners are reminded that time trials start at 5.30pm from the Uvongo pier and walkers meet at the club at 5.15pm every Wednesday evening.
