BRIAN Cole-Cook was returned as president at the AGM last Monday, with Rod Phelps vice-president, Ann McAllister treasurer and Ray Rivers secretary.
Committee members are Glen Allen, John Meyer, Peter Bennett, Jennie Rennie and Mary Phelps, and Amorie Schoëler catering convener. A competition secretary will be appointed shortly.
Re-opening of the green will be on Saturday, October 31, with mufti tabs at 1.30pm for 2pm.
The first sponsored competition of the new season is the Tops Port Edward men’s pairs on Sunday, November 1.
MARGATE BC
WINNERS of the Manaba Kwikspar women’s 2-4-2 played last Friday were Pam Cole-Cook and Vi Pells from Jessica Henderson and Ellen Cawker.
Session went to Dora Vosloo and Helen Proctor.
There will be a ‘bring and braai’ this Sunday morning, October 25, after bowls. Tabs in by 8.30am for 9am start.
The annual Oktoberfest will take place on Saturday, October 31. Tickets are available from Merle Davies and Yvonne Bausek. For further details contact Merle at 084 2415305.

IN the penultimate Engel & Volker Property Shop men’s fours, Barry Delvin’s team of Barry, Rassie Erasmus, Jimmy Holtshausen and Charles Murgatroyd won on a shot count out to go even further ahead in the ladder.
Also on 19 points were Graham Gold, Brian Cole-Cook, Dan Delaney and Sergio Ruperto who picked up silver.
In third place were Neels Boshoff, Kobus Faber, Hans Wijtmann and Graham Fisher with 18 points. Thank you to Riverside for allowing us to use their green.
In the last match of the year on November 20, Barry Delvin (166) will play Denzil Massyn (131), Graham Gold (128) will play Ken Tonge (127), Barry Christie (125) will play Hans Wijtmann (119), Ian Hutton (111) will play Martiens Olivier (111) and finally Bill Brown will play Mike Davis.
This will also be played at Riverside. The Warwick invitation day is on Wednesday, October 28, followed by the club AGM at 6pm.
PORT EDWARD
IT’S nearly time for the greens to open again, which is good news for the bowlers. The Halloween Party will be on Friday, October 30 at 4.30pm, followed by Quiz 5 at 6pm.
Cost is R30 per person, including a burger. All welcome.
Let’s watch the Rugby World Cup semi-final between the Springboks and All Blacks this Saturday, October 24 at 5pm.
Noel van der Merwe returned on the 16th from visiting her son in Australia and was knitting jerseys for the Murchison Hospital premature babies as a lot of ‘Bowlers 4 Babies’ women do.

THE Bell Boys won the monthly Business Bowls Challenge last Friday, pipping Trapezium Design. There was a full green of 48 players and it was closely contested.
Winners were Mark Bischoff with Brett Kjonstad, with Sharon Bischoff and Bernie Sinclair the runners-up.
Main sponsor was Port Shepstone Precast. Hampers were sponsored by Tiago’s.
The next Business Day Challenge is on November 20.
RIVERSIDE
WELL done to Pauline Dunlop and Mike Thompson, winners of the recent handicap singles.
Norma Louw, Ann Osbourn and Dick Thompson won the Hopdens Spar open trips, followed by Brian Muir, Ray Visser and Henry Bazaka.
Session winners were Leo Niese, Brian Cross and Attie Ackerman, John Gibson, Bill Eckels and Arnold Ossendryver.

GOOD news is that the greens will be opening for summer play on Friday, October 30 at 1.30pm for 2pm. The format will be Fazenda 2-4-2.
Saturday, October 31’s tabs in will be at 2pm for 2.30pm. Summer times will then come into operation.
Sevens league starts on Monday, November 2, mornings only.
The men will be playing at the club on Monday and Tuesday and the women on Wednesday.
A well-attended social evening was held last Friday with a talk and videos given by Brent Addison of scuba diving and general marine knowledge fame, pertaining to our coastal waters.
Delicious seafood potjie and lasagne were cooked and served by Brent and Janet Larkins.
SOUTHPORT
THE South Coast Herald mixed pairs 2-4-2 held last Thursday were won by Sheenagh Dempster and Jan Snyman.
Runners-up were Peet van Rooyen and Susan Fourie. Marie Piek and Fanie Strydom also won a prize for the biggest win in the second session.
The women’s singles club championship has kicked off, and last Saturday defending champion Marilyn Sinclair had spectators’ hearts in their mouths, before coming back from well behind to take her match against Perry Williams.
Cosmos Gumede, the current men’s singles champion, is rapidly running into form and appears unstoppable.
The Dr D’Arcy men’s trips will take place this Thursday (today) and the usual good turnout is expected. Members are also reminded of the Serene Care mixed trips coming up this Sunday, October 25.
Comments are being received that the greens are playing better than ever. This is rewarding to those who have put in so much effort over the recent period.
UMTENTWENI
THE Schooners Restaurant mixed trips played recently was won by Dennis Graham, with Jean and Derick Celliers.
Runners-up were Richard and Kitty Cochman and Dumisani Madlala. Second session went to Sheenagh Dempster, Mike Findlay and Winnie Hess.
Winners of the 3rd Avenue restaurant/Wimpy mixed fours were Peet van Rooyen, Susan Fourie and George and Marie Piek.
In second place were Peter Browning, Derick and Jean Celliers, and Isobel Prenger. Session winners were Jan Huygen, Astrid Jackson, Louis Marx and Nellie Davies.
The next competition will be the Wimpy women’s pairs today (Thursday, October 22).
The next social event will be the horse racing on Wednesday, October 28 at 6pm.
Please note that the ‘Hobo Day’, planned for Saturday, October 31, has been postponed to Sunday, November 1 at 9am.
Lots of fun and prizes, including ‘best hobo’, followed by lunch.

IT is hoped that B green will be playable within a couple of weeks.
The club hopes to start the nominated men’s and women’s championship pairs by the middle of November, so please find a partner and put your names on the lists by contacting Hazel.
The draws are out for the sevens leagues so please check where you are playing.
